RTX 5080 & Ryzen 7 9800x3D - 50% GPU usage?!

Why is it only using 50% of my GPU at 1080p Ultra settings? It sometimes drops to 70fps, shouldn't this CPU be enough to handle this game? How to get it to 100% usage?

5080 is a pure 4k card . not even 2k like 3080. 5080 and 5090 are just for 4k gaming . its madness to play on 1080p it never going to use all it power. i play on 3080 on 4k with dlss without RT of course i get similar results. get better monitor

70 FPS seems VERY odd at that config with that resolution. I don't know as I don't have a 5080 to check but it might happen if you were using path tracing, DLAA and no DLSS, I suppose (but then I don't understand why the GPU use would be so low). Have you checked whether your system is in a power saving mode under the power settings? Are you running any very intensive mods? Is there any very heavy background process running in Windows? Eg antivirus or something. Is V sync set or a capped frame rate? Is there a temperature problem in your PC's case?

The other thing is that one of the recent windows updates completely screwed with a lot of games' frame rates. I think it was the 2024 h2 update but can't remember. For me it made Elder Scrolls Online, of all things, run at about 20 FPS on a 4070 ti super. So it might be worth rolling back that update if you have it to check.

The 5080 is barely faster than the 4080S, neither of them are 4K cards especially in this game, unless you like frame gen and DLSS blur.

Increase your graphic settings and use DLAA under DLSS in order to use your GPU more, sounds like a very bad problem though cause I am running a 7700 X on a 5080 Asus with full path path tracing at 100 FPS solid using GLSS performance mode.

Real question is, why spend money on a 5080 and still play 1080p? makes very little sense to me. It's like have a little Porche engine on a Fiat 500.

More like 1440p not 4k. I have both and works better on a 1440p

I think only the 4090 and a proper 5090 can do 4k proper but your talking £2500 just for card.

You wont get to 100% utilisation playing at 1080p, at that resolution the CPU is doing most of the work, you need to crank the graphics up to force the CPU to offload the demand onto the GPU.

You should be playing at minimum 1440p.
