Can I still finish main story if I finish the DLC first?
I looked for some answers online and they are so confusing. I'm just got a call to get to dogtown which is the starting point of DLC. If I understand correctly, DLC offers a new ending which is different from main story, does that mean if I finish the DLC first I cannot come back to main story unless I load a manual save? Should I make a save here and finish up main story then do the DLC then?

Finish the base game first, then you will have the endings of the DLC.
But if you finish the base game first you miss out on a new ending.
And that end ui ui...
First base game, then go to the dlc.

There are decisions you make in the DLC that will lead you to the new ending. The game will warn you of the point of no return so you can make a save there and go back to the main game if you want. If you haven't made the decision that leads to the new ending then you can finish the DLC and proceed back to the main game. If you go through to the new ending the game ends there and you have to load the earlier save so you can go to the main game and complete it. The main game also has multiple endings depending on choices you make after it's point of no return. So if you finish the main game first you will still have to load a point of no return save to finish the DLC. Trying to avoid spoilers here.
