Turning off Autosave breaks the game??
Because the autosave utterly clutters your load game, I turned it off. But for some reason now everything is tied to autosave? Every "event" stops dead in its tracks and simply refuses to continue unless it detects an autosave.

You are now forced to have it on?

EDIT:
To highlight, the issues with Autosave:
A. creates unnecessary clutter when trying to load a save.
B. creates microstuttering everytime it autosaves.

Example:
this is how often it autosaves. It's sometimes <1min between intervals.

seems fine to me, if it ain't broke don't press buttons.

[turns off auto save. loads into hell and nothing works] "GAMES BROKEN1I I CHANGED SOMETHING AND NOW ITS BUGGERED!!231" [rage quits]

I remember my lil bro playing various games with auto save and turning it off and failing at the game and just rage quitting because nothing worked after, and not turning it back on.

for example if you take out the spark plug from an engine its most likely not going to work properly.

But the base game works 100% fine with it turned off. It's as soon as you get into dogtown it suddenly relies on it being turned on. Why...

Yea its obviously the OP's fault that an option in the game doesn't work properly isn't it.

Not only that, but the autosaves cause microstutter, and its autosaving all the damn time. When you enter a building, when you exit a building. I wonder if people actually mistake the game's performance with the autosave feature.

Sure as ♥♥♥♥ turning it off again when I finish the DLC...

It makes finding the right save file a bit annoying, but "breaks the game" seems a bit much my choomba.
The auto save is awful in this game. Why can't they simply allow us to determine how many auto saves we have, and how often we want to auto-save?

Morrowind did this over 20 years ago.

Well, i guess the correct title would be "turning off autosaves breaks the game"
You can literally not even get into dogtown without turning them on. The generator you have to turn on, wont work unless it autosaves.

dunno about that. Have never used autosave....I just use manual saves and have no issues....you might want to try that.

It's on by default dude. You have to use a custom .ini in the engine folder to turn it off.
And again, it:

A. creates unnecessary clutter when trying to load a save.
B. creates microstuttering everytime it autosaves.

So youre tampering with the internal config files of the game, turn off stuff and wonder that it breaks the game?

If thats the case you deserve a few clown awards.

I'm not surprised it breaks your game. It's not something that's actually in the game, and anything that isn't may break it, like mods.

I have never had stuttering from the game autosaving.

I think your OCD is playing up.

LMAO, oh no I edited an ini file to turn off auto save. Yeah with such highly advanced hacks into the inner workings of the game, why would I expect it to still work amirite. Tell me you're a zoomer without telling me you're a zoomer if you think editing ini files is a surefire way to break a game.

Its totally my fault they added a line of code that literally waits for an autosave before continuing in the DLC. Someone no other game I know does.

You guys are acting like im tampering with the engine gamefiles. It's a user.ini file. If that breaks games normally, nobody would be able to play skyrim. .ini files are so ancilliary, even making this argument makes you more of a clown.

Ignore the trolls. I totally agree with you. If merely disabling autosave can somehow break quest triggers in this game, then that just goes to show the level of spaghetti coding that's in this game. The two doesn't even have anything to do with one another. This reminds me of Bethesda's poor programming when they decided to tie the movement speed with FPS (Fallout 76) or the loading speed with FPS (Fallout 4). It is kind of ridiculous.

That used to break Skyrim too if you go over 60. Dont know if thats still the case. OG dark souls also counts frames. So your parry windows, and damage received are counted in frames. So running that over 30fps also breaks the game. It is just weird that they added that line into the code for the DLC only. Even in 2.0 im able to play the basegame with autosaves disabled. It just breaks the DLC. So its something they added there.

So now my loadscreen is cluttered AF, and every 30 seconds or so the game stutters due to autosaving. It would be nice if they added a toggle switch, or even better, adjust the frequency of the autosaves. Because in the event that you die mid-mission, not having autosaves is kind of annoying, since manual saves are often disabled. But the tradeoff being what it is, i still ran without it and just try to not suck at the game :P
