I aim for the bottom 2 for netrunner and if I get the 3rd one it is a bonus, the top one is just eddies.
I usually look them over first, doing them in my head without selecting anything until I see the entire solution. If it looks too complicated at first, I exit the device (panel, antenna or whatever) and go back in, then you get new numbers. Very often the new numbers are much easier (or that might just be my imagination or some digital placebo effect).
I love doing these, as they're one of the few (if not the only) things in the game where you get to give your IQ a little workout
Come to think of it, one or 2 of those shards you find during certain missions seem pretty impossible to solve completely, and you just have to pick the row(s) needed for the mission. Not 100% sure, though.
If so, remember that you can re-roll the daemons (number/letters) by un-jacking from the panel (or vending machines, etc) and re-jacking in.
Sometimes you will get a bad set that may make it extremely difficult or even impossible to successfully solve all 3 tiers.
Rarely happens for me now, since I have a broader set of buffers ready to go, but there may still be times where I see a high improbability of success, so I simply disconnect from the panel and reconnect again to re-roll the daemons.
You can only do this if you didn't solve a line yet, btw.
If you've already solved a line before getting stuck, then you'll have to take the fail along with whatever you've already successfully solved.
I used to hate doing these things because I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do. lol But I finally caught on and now pretty much solve them all without a problem.
Good luck!
If you run into a panel that gives an 'impossible' set of strings to hack, you can ESC out of it and try again...the game will reroll the strings.
But you can still get unlucky and have a bad RNG, generally I exit out and try a second time, even if that costs me some solving time.
This changes drastically as you upgrade your deck, and buy better ones. And of course, there are Int perks that help a lot aswell.
And as others have said, putting points into Intelligence helps a lot to give you that leeway.
