Personally, I'd say that it's worth using it, but that's just my opinion.
What I meant to say is that I want to have path tracing off but have ray reconstruction on.
Strange. I did some before and afters of having ray reconstruction on w/o path tracing. I ended up liking having it on because I saw more details in the distance. But then I saw it can make things glitchy and wasn't sure to what extent.
I used it for a while, and I use ray tracing, not path tracing (3070 Ti, rest of specs in profile). It's still available to select, so I don't think it has changed.
But I ended up turning it off, as it causes some weird effects, mainly on plain, uniform surfaces, for example some pavements, ceilings and walls. It's like the surface is 'flowing', or shimmering, like it's a liquid.
I also tried updating the dll-file I can't remember the name of now (from v3.5 which is in the game, to 3.7 released recently) as it was supposed to improve it, but this shimmering effect was still there, so for now I prefer to play without Ray Reconstruction.
edit:
Sheesh my spelling today haha.
There certainly is. Maybe an update made it possible?
(Also, maybe, it's possible given that I have a 4000 series that they don't offer the option independently of path tracing when you can use path tracing but that would be truly weird.)
edit:
re-commented due to your edit.
I’ve been playing the last month but only tried ray reconstruction on and path tracing off for last 3 days so not sure how long it was possible. I haven’t touched any of the files.
This is from my settings screen now:

I noticed that when I enable Path Tracing (which is too demanding for my card, but just to try), Ray Reconstruction is automatically enabled (set to 'On') by the game, but it can be turned off again. But it might indicate it's better suited for Path Tracing.
