Are Mods necessary for the experience??
Just bought the game recently > wanna know if there are any mods that are worth downloading? I'm looking to keep it as vanilla as possible, mods that improve the game in the direction it was intended to be.

Honestly, it really depends on what you think needs changing or would like improving. Sometimes playing through is the only way to find out. I'm quite happy playing very close to vanilla with only some cosmetic mods and console commands enabled, maybe changes to improve AI's use of hacking, while others will tell you that every one of their 150 mods is an absolute essential.

Tyler McVicker's list is a useful starting place, about 100 mods to have a look through on his curated list: https://next.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/collections/1e9pjf

Short answer is no.

Vanilla game is extremely pretty. I played with just a couple archive mods for the first 1000 hours, that gave my female V crab feet (steel blades) and recoloured one of the motorcycles.

That really is just a matter of putting a file into a folder, the simplest and most basic modding there is. Could i play vanilla? Of course, but with modding some things being so easy why should I.

Necessary? No.
Very useful? Yes.

It depends on what you want from this game.

First playthrough is nice to do without mods so you get the authentic experience. After that, mods add replayability, like any other game.

OP, the game is fantastic as is. 2nd playthrough I added clothing mods. Nothing that adds stats. Seriously, that's all the game needed imo.
Play the game. If you feel as if something is missing, try to fix it with a mod perhaps. But I seriously love the game as is (with a few extra clothes options).
Play through vanilla first. Then add mods to play again a second or third time.
The game is as is. The vanilla won't change.
In my opinion mods don't change it that much. They just add some more interesting things here and there.

haven't seen any mods that add any real content so unless you want different clothes some cars or new radio stations its really not gonna be much different with or without mods

I put 200 hours in it and never used a mod. What is that " direction intended to be " ?

considering the game is lacking very basic stuff...id say yes

550 hour playthrough here. No mods at all and absolutely loved the experience.

So no, I don't think mods are necessary, but they can make it more fun and interesting for sure. I wouldn't recommend them for a first playthough though for multiple reasons.
SAme like in real life with those guys who put like 10M usd into plastic surgencys into theyr wife, bc vanilla as she was they did not liked her at all.
If you need Mods, then this Game was not the right one for you.
Easy as that.

I'm on my first playthrough, the games great with one notable exception....Vehicles are a joke and feel like they were ported from GTA vice city lol....

The handle really oddly, take damage from collisions weird, and most notably they clip through each other sometimes...For example, i drove one of the large 6 wheeled trucks atop another vehicle, and its wheels clipped through the other vehicle. It kinda bugs me being this is a major full price title, that's my only complain about the game, rest of it is great.

mod that makes driving better is needed if you care at all about that aspect, the vanilla driving is horrible

Agree with everyone here: game is a blast of fun without mods, but driving cars sure does feel like you're pushing shopping carts over ice. Stick to motorcycles, they have better handling and its easier to maneuver through traffic at faster speeds. And adjust your steering sensitivity slider down to 75% from 100%.
