Nah, it's just a byproduct of this being an adaptation of the origional.
David Bowie was the hot rockstar when the tabletop game was made, and thus Johnny Silverhand was origionally depicted as looking similar to David Bowie.
When the videogame was made decades later, they got Keanu Reeves onboard to voice Johnny, so it made sense to use Keanu's likeness aswell.
It's really that simple.
Johnny's face is depicted on items such as album covers you can find in the game, which are not affected by Johnny's altered or faulty memories, and yeah, his face looks like Keanu, because this is an adaptation where the character is played by Keanu.
For CP'77 canon, what's in RED pre-empts any conflicts in canon from the prior editions.
That is interesting, and might be the reason for the alternate look?
....not without a mod.
Keanu Reeves is awesome? XD

Can also set this in the game options menu, like it says there.
I tried it for the first time now, but I prefer the default. I saw someone comparing his alternate look to 'Depeche Mode'-look, and I agree. Good band, though.

If he's awesome? Never met him, so I wouldn't know
Weird, never saw that before. But god it looks horrid. Keanu should be offended. XD
And, yeah, everything I've seen and heard, he's a genuine and very nice guy and strongly supportive of the rights of minorities.
The alt-outfit does look like something Bowie might wear in the 80's, and yeah i don't think that's a coincidence, that's likely a deliberate callback to the tabletop.
It doesen't quite work though, because Keanu's features really does give it more of a Depeche Mode look, rather than a David Bowie look. Though i guess that's still closer to the classic look from the 80's tabletop manuals.
If you want to see what he origionally looked like, just do an image search for "Johnny Silverhand manual", and you'll find some of the hand-drawn depictions of him from the old tabletop manuals.
My kind of guy, then!
