Saved data is damaged and cannot be loaded
Since the new update I've had this and cannot play the game.
I've tried reverting to the 2.13 older version but no luck.

Anyone knows how to fix this? I better have not just lost my entire save file from an update.

did you have any mods active when you updated?

every time the game updates, even a little, with mods installed, those mods break.
and those can break saves unfortunately.
(we take this risk whenever we mod i'm afraid)

the best thing you can do (mods or no mods) is to turn automatic updates off in steam by going to your library, selecting the game and right clicking to get the drop down, then go into 'properties' and choose 'updates' and set the game to 'only update when i launch the game'
this won't stop the game from breaking if you then use steam to start it, but it will let you wait it out and stay with the old version untill all your mods are patched (if you DO mod)
you go into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077\bin\x64" and find the .cyberpunk2077.exe file and start the game from there.
(or whichever drive you installed your steam games into)

I didn't ask for the update, it just started updating while I was away from the PC , came back to find a new version with corrupt save files.
Also you cannot turn off automatic updates off. I've already checked so I don't know where you've got that information from

Once an update is out, you have to update the game in order to play, there is no playing without updating.

Technically, Steam forces you to do the update, not the devs.
I you would have a stand alone copy (meaning any copy outside Steam), it would be totally up to you whether you want to update or not. Unfortunately, Steam does not provide that option and forces you to ruin your mods, leaving you with an unplayable game until the modders have done their magic.

Well doesn't matter who's fault it is, the matter of the fact the save is corrupt. 84 hours gone.
If I could leave a second negative review I would but unfortunately I can't. Thanks for the quick responses though. Was hoping for a workaround fix to restore the files but guess no luck

This is the risk you take when using mods. Just a little patience and the mods will get updated. Though yeah, Steam forced update suck, this is one thing I hate about Steam too, as updates sometimes break even unmodded games. There should be a longer grace period, at least two weeks, before we are forced to update.

See if there is a slightly older save in Steam Cloud:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage

Otherwise, you have learned a life lesson: you need to backup your files.

Usually, you just need to "arm yourself with patience" as some ex-corpo would say...
Once the mods are updated, your older saves should also work again. At least that has always been the case for me. Might depend on the mods though, but in general it should work.

This. You just have to have a little patience.

Usually it's only the 'core mods' (CET, ArchiveX or whatever they're all called) that needs to be updated, then the rest will follow suit.

CET is usually updated very shortly after game patches, like within a day.

yeah, i just had to go into settings and remove updates being sheduled for my games that i told it to not update till i play it.

steam will use the 'default' setting of 'let steam choose to update' if you do not tell it otherwise.
up until tuesday, my games i chose not to update till i started were sitting in the 'unscheduled' section. but tonight, i went to check and they had times and dates for their updates.
so i went into the steam settings page and changed its default to 'update game when i launch' so no game will update unless i start to play it through steam.
then, i clicked on the little [ x ] box on the right hand side to take them out of the queue. this moved them back down to unscheduled again. no time, no date.
yes, if i try to start them thru steam they will update. but i do not need to do that with my modded games, or cyberpunk2077

i have been playing cyberpunk 2.02 for over a year.
via the .exe file. its one of the few games you can do that with.
there are a few other games you can play without steam like fallout4, you have to use the F4se-loader to do it. you use SKSE if you want to not update your skyrim (moded)

most games will not let you do this, that is true.
but Cyberpunk is one game that will let you play via its .exe file.
i have 3 other 'copies' of cyberpunk on another seperate drive on my pc, and all 3 of them will work from their .exe file.
1.61 modded, 1.63 Legacy vanilla and 2.02 modded (backup)
