Yorinobu is the one that stole the relic and put Johnny's engram on it. Johnny is the key to reaching Alt Cunningham beyond the blackwall. Presumably she's the most powerful and dangerous AI there. Netwatch wants that specific engram to keep it out of anyone else's hands to protect the blackwall and stop AIs from taking over. The Voodoo Boys on the other hand want it to make contact with Alt. They believe that the blackwall falling and humanity as we know it to end is inevitable. They want to form a deal with Alt to be on the winning side.
Takemura was being framed by Yorinibu for Saburo's murder along with V. It's clear Takemura doesn't buy into the poison thing and Yorinobu just needs to get rid of him. He tasks him with finding V and then sends his assassins to kill 2 birds with one stone.
Daemons are essentially rogue AIs (i think). Subnets are smaller internets that are easier to control and defend than the original world wide web that was destroyed by Bartmoss in the Data Krash. ICE stand for Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics. Think firewall basically. It's a form of protection from cyber attacks.
As for wether Yorinobu is a hero or not it's debatable. I think he's your average Corpo that just wants to be at the top and control things but he has a line that he won't cross. He considers that what Saburo is doing is well passed that line and too dangerous and must be stopped. He's not good, but certainly not the megalomaniac that would see the whole world burn like Saburo.
first of all, you should try to place these kinds of posts into their own section of the forum.
if you cant or don't want to use that part of the forum, you should use the [ and ] bracket with spoiler and then /spoiler after your stuff so it shows up as large black blocks till you click or mouse over it.
Yorinobu did that because he was 'asked to steal a Relic and place the engram of Johnny Silverhand onto it'
those who asked, did not ask for the special one, but for just a Relic. they only wanted the data to use a chunk of it to lure Alt to them.
Saburo had the 2.0 Relic (i call it the Reliquary, to seperate it from the basic version that only saved a copy of the person) built specifically for him. and the reason was so that he could take over his son's body and keep going. 150 years was not enough for Saburo Arasaka
Yorinobu was/is Saburo Arasaka's only remaining son. the middle child of the family where Hanako is the youngest, and the first born son was Kei Arasaka who died not long after the AHQ bomb.
yes, he is sort of a 'good guy' if you can call anyone in the cyberpunk world 'good'
he wanted to stop his farther, stop the Corpo's from taking everything. but he found he could not.
he ran away and joined a gang (the Steel Dragons) as a younger man, but after the AHQ bomb he realised that just blowing things up was not going to work. so he returned to the family and worked his way up, hoping to destroy the Corp from within.
Goro Takemura was hunted by the Arasaka Assassin Squad (the gonks on bikes that try to kill us in the car) because Yorinobu sent them to make sure that Takemura could not get the information on who exactly, had killed his father. Yorinobu framed Goro as the killer, so no one would listen, and tried to get both V and Takemura ghosted.
Mamon Brigitte and her group of Voodoo boys dont want to destroy the Blackwall. they wanted to THROUGH it, to the other side. to parlay (negotiate) with the Wild Ai's out there in what is left of the Net.
they wanted the Relic because they arranged to have Johnny placed on it. they needed Johnny because he was the last connection they had access to, to the famous Alt Cunningham. as a former human that was now almost an Ai, she was about the only one who could help them get thru the Blackwall and help them find the Wild Ai's to talk to.
they want to side with the WIld Ai's when the next war arrives, because they belive that the next war with be the Wild Ai's versus the meatspace humans (us lot)
a Daemon is a program, construct. netrunners create them then use them.
quickhacks are limited, simple versions of those Deamons, but they all get called that generally.
Subnet is like a small network. the local network you run at your school, the cables that run at your work or the group of machines (pc's mobile phones and consoles as an example) you have at home.
they use the 'subnet' term to seperate it from other networks like the CityBubble (the network that Night City, and other main Citys in the game world run on) or the Net (the big scary thing behind the Blackwall.
Intrusion Countermeasure Electronics.
security programs to stop nasty malware, virsuses and other things from getting into you, your systems or your hardware.
think of it as anti-malware or an add blocker. its the U-Block of the cyberpunk world, or the Norton Antivirus. (only hopefully, works better XD)
The purpose of Soulkiller is to create constructs based on a person's consciousness. Those can be used for a multitude of purposes. Living people can "talk" to their dead loved ones if an engram was made of them beofre their passing (we can overhear npc's talking about that in the columbarium). Arasaka can extract information from dead people, essentially making Mikoshi a giant repository of all the knowledge the engrams inside possesed in life.
It is not clear to me that the Relic V steals from Arasaka was meant to overwrite the users consciousness with Johnny's, as far as I can tell that was the result of V "dying" for a short time and both his brain and the Relic malfunctioning because of the bullet Dex put in V's head.
What made Johnny's engram so valuable was his connection to Alt Cunningham, Soulkiller's creator turned rogue AI. Alt is an extremely powerful AI with the power to potentially breach the Blackwall, likely able to "smuggle" data safely from one side to the other, too. The possibilities are endless, and any corpo would salivate at the idea of having Alt on their side. Arasaka likely wanted Alt for the power she would bring them, while the Voodoo Boys wanted to breach the Blackwall and unleash the Old Net rogue AIs upon the world, believing they would be safe (essentially, I for one welcome my AI overlords). Using Johnny was the only way to get an audience with Alt.
I do not think Yorinobu was aware of the grand scheme of things, at least at the beginning of the game, before his takeover of Arasaka. He was a rebellious kid who wanted to make quick money and stick it to his father, as far as I can tell.
Takemura was blamed by Yorinobu for Saburo's murder, can't remember is he was accused of the murder itself, or of helping the killer. In any case Yorinobu used him as a scapegoat for his crime while disacrediting him at the same time, since Takemura is the one person in Arasaka who knows Yorinobu is the actual murderer.
Subnet if memory serves is any given regional network, since the net is divided by corporations instead of being a single massive decentralized web. Not sure on this one.
ICE is an acronym for "Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics", essentially a firewall/antivirus, software meant to protect a network or user from hackers.
Daemons are to my understanding the opposite, essentially offensive software meant to affect a network in some way. Data mining for example, as V does whenever he breaches an access point. Daemons can also be a component of ICE, as a form of counter attack on an intruding netrunner.
Any peeps more knowledgeable than I feel free to come in and fill/correct anything in this post.
