Is crafting worth it?
Hello. returning player here coming back to 2077. I bought this game ages ago but haven't gotten around to completing it yet.

in your opinion Is crafting something I should pursue, or should I just keep an eye out for ground loot? As of right now i'm just concentrating on the main story and my progress is pretty linear.

So far i'm just my attributes into Body + cool and it seems to working okay for now. But TBH, I really have no idea if that's viable or not.

Yeah. I scav & disassemble everything that can be broken down I come across in the game from the outset & hack as many dataterms as I can. I keep all Iconics, upgrade the 3 I'm using first then upgrade the others when I've got the parts to do it.

Takes no time to properly sweep whatever scene/gig to get everything once you're done.
break down every weapon/armor/mod you don't use and use the parts to upgrade cyberware

you get enough money without selling anything

Since the 2.0 patch, crafting is now more useful than it's ever been! And yet also, more useless than it's ever been..

Yes, you should collect crafting materials, because they are now used to upgrade your Cyberware and iconic weapons. And you'll need quite a few materials for that, to make some items Tier5++ (the best tier), it can cost upwards of 200 gold crafting materials per item.

So if you have just 5 iconic weapons you want to upgrade to their best tier, that's 1000 gold crafting materials spent right there.

You can nolonger buy crafting materials at junk vendors, like you could pre 2.0, so the only way to get them is to dismantle items. Ergo, you should be doing this every now and again as you play, to make sure you're building up a steady supply of the things.

Meanwhile, crafting non-iconic weapons has been nerfed, hard. It used to be the best way to ensure you had an up to date and powerful gun, but now, crafted weapons are limited to their base tier.

So if you can craft a Tier2 Unity pistol, it's going to be Tier2 pistol. Not a Tier2+ pistol, and you can't upgrade it (you can only upgrade iconics).

As you enter the endgame, level 50+. this means that crafting weapons becomes worthless.

Any gun you can craft will only be a Tier5, meanwhile, you can kill some random gangoons and they will drop Tier5+ or Tier5++ weapons, that are far better than anything you could ever make youself.
Enjoy fighting some thugs that where trying to break into a vending machine, and take their weapons worth enough to buy an apartment.
Is crafting worth it?
Well, yes, and no.

By now, half of the iconic weapons you find througout the game are blueprints that you have to craft yourself.
Upgrading iconic weapons and cyberware requires also some sort of crafting.
For that you need components, and you get most of these by scrapping items (instead of selling).
These three things are well worth it.

But
Crafting doesnt require skills, perks or even attributes to do. You can just do it. So you dont have to 'pursue' crafing, you just do it.
Upgrading normal weapons or apparel is gone.
Crafting consumables isnt really a thing anymore. Grenades and health item respawn in your pockets (which imho is pretty lame).
Theoreticaly you could craft ammo, I guess. Never did it though, you find plenty.
You can, theoretically, buy blueprints instead of weapons. I did it once cause it was a blueprint for something I've been locking for for quite a while. But in 99% of all cases buying a blueprint means you pay extra for having to additionaly spend components to actually get the weapons.

This is helpful as i didn't know these differences. I used to craft like crazy when you could reroll for stats on clothes and weapon buffs. Now I can't figure out how to replace weapon enhancements. If the slots are filled it just doesn't allow them to be replaced? Is this accurate? I have a ton of good items to use but the weapons are all filled with lower tier buffs.

Yes...weapon mods (enhancements as you call them) can no longer be replaced or removed, so you are depending on luck (or random distribution) to find a weapon with mods you really want, although there are X-MOD weapons here and there that do allow mod replacement.

However weapons you craft or buy will have empty mod slots and most non-Iconic weapons are relatively cheap to craft. Also, there are various mods on Nexus that change the base game 'rules'. I'm using one called Farm Is Dead, that makes every dropped (but unbroken) weapon have empty mod slots...for the most part I have the weapons I want, but I'm still searching for a Tier 5++ katana I can mod up. Whether a Tier 5++ Iconic you can't mod is better than a non-Iconic with good mods is something you have to figure out for yourself.

You absolutely need crafting components to upgrade your cyberware...it's a major decision in the early game whether to upgrade Iconic weapons or cyberware.

Thanks for the info that answers what I've been wondering from my early days playing to returning awhile back. I crafted a ton back when there were greater odds and cheaper costs for crafting (maybe it still exists but so much is different). I have almost all my cyberware at 5++ and it does get expensive. But it's very easy to farm it as well. I think I'm at like 325 cyberware and 1300ish armor along with maxed out points for perks. I just have a few trait systems to max out which will take awhile.

I crafted everything and spend millions of eddies to get the blueprints for every weapon in the game... then I outleveled craftable weapons.

you can craft up to tier 5, but you can loot up to Tier 5++.

So no, in the end it really wasn't worth it. Unfortunately.

Thanks everybody for your input.

Happy new year.

honestly, to put things simple
if you're lazy to gather materials which are simple to get for crafting weapons, quickhacks, etc, just do missions or buy weapons. you can get quickhacks (t1-t5 depending on your level) from access points or sumn, you can also get t1-t5 weapons by killing Tyger claws, maelstroms, etc.
IMHO, crafting is more convenient

I think trying to find weapons dropped by enemies is one of the things I waste the most time on. I know they can drop through the ground sometimes and some of them do that seesaw thing halfway into the ground which makes them hard to spot and to get the prompt for, but I do think I just miss a lot because I don't see them due to grass or maybe because they're much farther away from the dead enemy than I expect. Or something. I do know I don't find nearly as many weapons as I should.

I know one of the loading texts says something about tapping Tab to highlight things, but that doesn't seem to work for weapons. They're supposed to show the coloured tier cube, but in practice that either doesn't happen, or it first happens after a while or when I've moved quite far away from them.
Is there some other way to get them highlighted?

Firstly well I just want to say you got a lot of people in here that are very jealous of you because people that played the game from the beginning experienced a lot of bugs and a lot of ♥♥♥♥ but playing it now it's an amazing game and I really wish you the best although I think I'm like 5 months late on this reply but oh well
