Nobody knows anything yet. I'd temper your expectations and just wait and see the live stream via their Twitch channel they linked in the announcement thread. :)
My FG is working very well. What I do is:
In-game: FG = ON
Nvidia CP:
vsync = adaptive
fps lock = 60
The game runs with everything at maximum + 4K + DLSS quality mode + RT at maximum. All this running at 60FPS smoothly.
AMD's poor attempt at FG is whats broken.
Mostly cosmetics (character builder and vehicles)
Photo mode overhaul including Smart Frames added to apartments
More purchasable autos
Owned-auto cosmetics changes act similarly to Active Camo if you have a police tail
Powel also said there's some extra stuff throughout the game, but he wants us to go around and discover them ourselves. We'll soon see. :)
There are exceptions, but let's look at the "YuGo_Wolverine" comment.
If he does have FG working and reporting 60FPS then his game is only rendering 30 actual frames per second. Your LAG (slugishness) is based on that number, and then you add a bit more lag on top of that because you have to WAIT for the frames to be generated in the first place.
The VISUAL benefits in terms of smoothness are the ONLY reason to use FG. Basically how smooth things look when you pan the camera around and objects move.
TLDR is that the LAG is always a little worse than HALF the reported number. Again, "60FPS" is 30FPS with every other frame extrapolated with additional lag.
Additionally, you get extra ARTIFACTS which vary by the game, the Frame Gen solution and the FPS you are starting with.
So...
I honestly think running at "maximum + 4K + DLSS quality mode + RT at maximum" is far from ideal if you have a lot of LAG, but if that's the way he/she wants to play the game then by all means go for it. It just doesn't seem like a good tradeoff.
PERSONALLY, with my RTX4070 I've found the best experience is around 80FPS without Frame Gen then adjust the visuals to get me there.
*Finally, it's worth noting that depending on many factors, Frame Gen might give minimal FPS boost anyway. If you're going from say, 80FPS to "100FPS" then you've gone from the lag of 80FPS to worse lag than 50FPS but with added visual artifacts.
Do you notice the increased "smoothness" when panning by comparing 80FPS to "100FPS" or does it seem roughly the same?
**So understand HOW the technology works if you want the best benefit. As the visual artifacts DECREASE and the RELATIVE FPS gains increase Frame Generation will make more sense as it IMPROVES over time, but frankly I haven't found a single situation with my RTX4070 + R7-5700X3D where it made sense to use it.
(I'm happy to be proven WRONG. But do so politely.)
With all the (new to me) little things I keep finding around NC with each playthrough, quite intrigued for this little mysterious morsel he dropped.
