The game supports FSR 3.0, not FSR 3.1. If it did, and the game was whitelisted by AMD, you could simply upgrade to FSR 4 through the driver manually. It would be good if CDPR upgraded the game to 3.1, seems to be the best solution for both older cards (upgraded spatial model + decoupled FG) and newer cards (upgrade path to FSR 4). Right now you can use something like optiscaler to force the DLSS .dll to bridge with FSR4.
Correct. FSR4 uses ML-based upscaling, so it's only for the 9000 series and up because older cards lacks hardware support.
Considering that FSR 4 went for a ML-CNN model for their upscaler, I'd say it's a big step forward in quality compared to their previous models. Calling it FSR 3.2 wouldn't make sense, especially when it's hardware limited.
I have two gaming rig (1 for missus), one with RTX 4070 and other just got a 9070XT, DLSS4 is a huge leap from 3 in terms of visual clarity (less blur, smears, ghosting). I have found FSR4 to be very similar quality to DLSS4. In some areas, its actually better, like less dis-occlusion where edges of objects or characters that move cause a break-up of objects behind it in a ghosting-pattern, FSR4 basically eliminated that artifact. While DLSS4 retains an edge in texture detail & appears a bit more sharper.
Edit: Both are leagues ahead of FSR3 and even DLSS3, which while decent, is prone to serious artifacts & blur that reviewers like Digital Foundry either ignore or gloss over, but my eyes do not lie to me.
I tried, the latest nightly build of Optiscaler no longer works with CB2077, it crashes immediately. Yes I have followed the instructions correctly.
CDPR has a good record of updating older games, they even did the Witcher upgrades. Hopefully they will include FSR4 for CB2077, this game is great!
All the Devs did was actually move that to the install folder.
FSR4 has been modded to work with Optiscaler, all CDPR has to do is use their work and make it official.
Also, AMD recently made it so that if a game uses at least FSR 3.1, their software suite (Adrenaline I think) can just override it to FSR 4 in an app. Kinda like how NVIDIA's app now also has DLSS overrides on a per game basis.
It'd be nice if all FSR 3 and under games at least got to FSR 3.1 so they could just use the FSR 4 override.
Not sure if Intel XeSS has a similar feature, but GPU Driver Overrides to upgrade versions of FSR / DLSS / XeSS should be standard IMO.
