Machine guns are a Power type weapon, while Wallpuncher is a Tech weapon only mod.
https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Cyberpunk_2077_Attachments_and_Modifications#Modifications
Your options are between a mod for:
Power weapons. The ones that work like normal guns.
Tech weapons. The ones that can be fired like normal guns but also have the charge up time for more powerful shots.
Smart weapons. The ones that do the aiming for you so long as you point the gun in, more or less, the right direction.
Melee weapons. The ones that aren't guns that you hit people with.
Move around the apartment with the core in your inventory until you get a prompt to display it (if you didn't already know). It looks a bit cool.
Then reload when you know what you want.
Wallpuncher on a Satara shotgun is nice.
I prefer iconic weapons like : Psalm, BreakThrough, Tsumotegi...
Even if you make use of it you can still decorate your apartment with it. Turns out we only need the parts inside it to make the mod.
I'm guessing that the melee mod can't be attached to a throwing weapon?
I didn't know that!
I might look into it again, then. But when I looked over the possible mods, I think I came to the conclusion I didn't really need any of them.
