I've just started, do these make a difference?

I don't know the statics etc of the clothes and armor, but V looks cool in those outfits

short answer: it depends. generally, no.

in older versions clothing has stats and bonuses from modifications;
in newer versions (2.0+, i think) they are just cosmetics, so feel free to dress up

There are a few items for all slots except legs and feet that do offer some bonuses that make equipping them worth it.
But otherwise it's as you say and about 90%+ of all clothing items are just for the look.

Equipment EX is just a mod that expands the cosmetic "wardrobe" feature of the game. So you can use clothes (and clothing mods) to make visual outfits, and save those outfits to quickly switch between.

edit: op, I've got almost a couple dozen so far, but they're not set up for "RP" or specific roles, they've mostly just saving cool outfits I built with all the clothing mods I've installed. There's a "rocker" one I used for the Samurai quests, though. :)

true indeed, i omitted this part to not overcomplicate it as they were asking a generic question

I've made a couple just to mess around with it, but I prefer to dress V from the Inventory.

it used to be 14, back before patch 2.0 dropped.
it was 'wardrobe extras' back then.

now, its just as many as you want to save i think.

for me, it depends on which V i'm playing with.
my main Valerie has a few.
one for meeting the Maelstrom (looks punk lol. the wolf school jacket, the starter black pants, boots and a wraith hood that is a replacer for the headbands)
a basic silver set (silver cargo pants with silver shoes and the silver yukata top)
Johnny's set, for date night with Rogue.
something totally not like she would wear, for when meeting Kerry at the Riot (so they dont know it's V, when we get interviewed lol..usually the fixer set as that looks the total opposite)
she also has a 'dogtown trash' set, for blending in when running in Pacifica and Dogtown at first.

Veronica has a few red, red+black corpo style sets, and her 'red ravager' superhero set that is a custom red netrunner suit+ mask+boots. she likes to wear that later in game once she's gone totally batsh*t insane, running about watson scaring the maelstrom lmao.

Violet like...violet. purple, magenta ect.

and Vinne has around 4-5 outfits, all themed like he was a Valentino (his dream lol)

while my Nomads (Valkyrie, Verity and Vincent) got for camo, cargo's and jeans mostly.

Viki is played as a Mox, so she has some questionable outfits XD

and Victor Masters..black. sleek and corpo to the bone, just like him lol. he'd go for a neck ruff too, if there was one.
