Personally I'd say that telling everyone their name was "V" was a smart choice .

Punk subculture was a semi-political movement started in the 1970s that stood for ideologies mostly concerned with individual freedom and anti-establishment views. Common punk viewpoints include individual liberty, anti-authoritarianism, a DIY ethic, non-conformity, anti-corporatism, anti-government, direct action, and not "selling out".
To most of the world however they were basically just a bunch of people in leather jackets with mohawks who liked listening to a loud, aggressive genre of rock music called (no shock here) punk rock.
