It sounded like it...but never mind. This is a challenging game in many ways. Maybe read some reviews and watch some gameplay on YouTube to see what it's like.
This game has a lot of kink, and you can start off as a Corp. The rp is not as deep as what you have in mind but if you want to hit up every "worker" in Night City, you can do that.
No. You are V. V can start as office girl but no matter what you start as you always end the same after ~15 minutes of intro: Down on your luck mercenary on a quest to [insert your motivation here]. The character is fully voiced as such you can not inject alot into her, but the writing and voice acting is mostly great and you got enough freedom to .. let's say: Scream ♥♥♥♥ the corpos / corpos are our friends, not food / I don't care I just wanna get rich / u turn half way through the story and go into rick and morty style [keep summer save] mode, but the character and story are set for the most part.
I was hoping for a more free form express yourself kind of deal like you (well, no .. not like THAT but .. the freedom to do something like that would have been nice) and was a little disapointed when I didn't get it, but what I got was still nice.
Gameplay and story:
The gameplay is decent. Pick your favorite means of causing mass casulties and spec into them -> enjoy. (Brute melee, Agile melee, Brute / Agile shooter, hacker who fries everything within seconds while hoping around like a madman swinging a monowire whip .. there are interesting options with different weapon types and cyberware to support / enable individual playstyles. You will find something you like and you would have to almost deliberatly pick the worst of the worst consistently to end up with something unplayable.)
Driving kinda sucks. It's servicable but 2 free tips for you to make it better:
Driving in between the lanes or on the opposit side of the road makes it much better. Cars will try to form a passage way between them if you drive in the middle or between the car and the side of the road if you try to drive on the outskirts of the road. Doesn't always work but makes it much better.
Motorcycles can ignore most traffic. Cars work, especially as described above, but if you need to traverse the inner city you might want to take a motorcycle.
You got Story missions, side stories and stuff to keep the game world alive which are for the most part all pretty good. There are some stinkers, but eh, it's nice enough.
The mainstory is rather short unless you include phantom liberty, than it gets a decent length. It's sort of a "Do as much of the side content as you would like than finish the story" kind of deal. The side stuff give you a better understanding of who V is which does pay off (or it did for me at least..) but there is only so much expression going on, so don't feel forced to finish all of it. You can, but you don't have to.
Trivial side content:
You got story missions, you got story esque missions and you got your usual openworld collectathon stuff. They hid most of the collect them all type of content by means of "mini quests" - go there, kill / loot -> leave. Namely: Cyberpsychos, NCPD hot spots and a bit into the game the Tarot cards. Non of it is overbearing, they kept it mercifully limited, but it's what you would expect from open world games, admitadly: Cyberpsychos are more interesting than collect x cards.
Endings:
... this is obviously spoiler heavy, so stop reading here if you want to know nothing, I will not explain full on game states but I can't talk about what you should expect from the endings without talking about .. the endings:
The game does a good job at showing / telling you how your story will go for the avarage person in night city. It also tells you how this will go for the exceptional person in night city. You yourself will be the reason for the downfall of some big names around town but V is still just someone playing the game of night city and just like in vegas: The house (almost) always wins. If you do not read that out of the events of the games story than the endings will frustrate you to no end as they did for a whole lot of people who spammed reddit and the steam forum in outrage over not having their everything is awesome and I am an untouchable god among man feels good ending. You will not get it. You can end on different high notes depending on what you pick as your "end run". You can end on several rather low notes including one where V understandably just "goes next" (heavily telegraphed from the end of act 1 on - so while it is a specific spoiler it isn't a terrible one.. + you have to opt in when the time comes - full player agency on that one).
They did a good job of giving you very different flavors of endings depending on what you want your V to be. (Example: Corpo V -> turns mercenary -> makes it big but gets into a hopeless situation -> decides that she fought enough and did enough and that it is time to stop playing the game of the city -> go next. It isn#t glorified, it isn't magnificent, but it is well done and you absolutly can come to the conclusion that this is what your character would do. You can also decide that you would prefer an action movie "the raid" style end run, kicking down doors and laying down the law, or listen to one (actually two) of the potential friends you can make throughout the game and do what they suggest instead for a more calming finale. There are plenty of options to express the end of the journey for "your" V, just don't expect and they lived happily ever after.
TL;DR:
The story itself isn't bad, but the way it is written and presented is (for the most part) reason enough to play this game. Rarely did I feel like I understood what my "somewhat set" character was going through and rarely did I feel like .. "you know what? ♥♥♥♥ it. I would never do this but this character, with all that happened up to now and the way I played her so far? Yeah, that is EXACTLY what they would do so let's do it" in videogames before. Cyberpunk has few moments where you can truely make a descision like this but that it got me to play like that instead of my usual RPG routine speaks to the quality of the presentation. Can be short or as long as you want it to be depending on how much side content you want to do, is varied in options for gameplay and keeps the overall tone of the world mostly straight. Go play it.
I personally still think the game is enjoyable cause the weapons are fun, along with the melee. If you are looking for a character that can be an office worker, but at night, shes the most kinkiest ♥♥♥♥♥. but in monogamist relationship, that is not possible.
BUT, Cyberpunk is not a good Game for Roleplay in my Opinion, because the Story is pretty fixed, outside your usual story-altering dialog options.
There are tons of Mods for this Game. Maybe you find something there, that gives you more RP-options, but i personally cant help with that.
BORING ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I would rather wave a single wave of very difficult bad guys trying to kill me then this ridiculous spawning of the same crappy bad guys.
Its a sign of a lack of imagination by the designers .
