I mean, the using part ... V is a merc. It's kinda part of V's job description to be used by other people. Whether or not she's _ab_used ... I dunno ... it's a grey area, I think.
You _can_ play those quests and depending on your choices never see anything unlikable about Claire. But other choices make it plain that she's so hellbent on her vendetta that she doesn't even care whether it's justified or not ... or actually, keeps on when it's kinda clear that it may well not be justified. That cooled my feelings for her quite a bit, too.
(Needless to say I always go along with her whims, though, because I want her car :P )
Yeah, I'm not much of a fan of either but at least Judy has some redeeming qualities unlike Claire. I tried to like Claire but I just can't. I wouldn't have a problem if she was upfront about her intentions instead of lying up until the very end.
First off, the driving portions of this game are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Just... utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Quite possibly the worst I've experienced in the past decade. They're REALLY bad, and whoever made them should FEEL bad for subjecting us to that. I mention this because Claire's questline is almost entirely made up of driving. I would say "racing", but as it's possible to get first place even after crashing several times, it's not really a race, is it?
So, here's the thing: She hires V to complete races to qualify for the final to race in the final to kill... I don't even remember his name anymore. Cocky Mcpisspants, doesn't matter. She doesn't mention this last bit until the final.
Do you know how many people my V killed?
I sure don't (because I lost count), but to put it in perspective, my first thought when I entered Totentanz was "I sure hope I get to kill most of these gangers", and I'd say that was consistent with my behavior throughout that 93 hour playthrough. I mention this because if the goal is to kill the guy... just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hire V to kill the guy! Why I gotta do this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ racing to get to a place where I can pop a cap in him? Oh, because SHE wants to be the one to do it? Okay, ♥♥♥♥♥♥' lemme just do a kidnapping mission. I've done several, and it's no big deal. Does he have security? Not for long. Live in a mansion? Broken into a few of those. Surrounded by turrets or some ♥♥♥♥? I can hack those and MAKE them kill him. I can hack HIM and make him kill himself. So like, at no point should I be forced to get into a car if the end goal is someone's death, even if V isn't going to be the one pulling the trigger. And then like, what, she wanted it to look like part of the race? It DIDN'T, as she had V roll up and stop so she could get out and shoot him while NPCs filmed off to the side. There's no "it was part of the race" defense there, and aren't you allowed to ram and shoot people during the race anyway? I ask with some uncertainty because I know riders shooting out tires was mentioned, but I think Claire only ever fired a single shot and she sure as hell wasn't in a car when doing so.
So why the ♥♥♥♥ I gotta jump through these hoops, Claire?
