But kidding aside Female V is my favorite just like her voice better, but don't recall them ever saying
Didn't know there was a canon Shepard. Since when?
Just like with Mass Effect and Femshep I like V as a female because of the voice. It's just done better than the male voices in both games which I just never liked the ranges or sound of. I feel the female voice actors are just better at conveying emotional ranges or the intensity of the moment (that may even be in general across most games/RPGs. Maybe I just like the found of a women's voice dunno).
The only downside is usually the romances since yeah I have no interest in my female PC's lovers and to be honest it feels even more weird every time I do the lesbian romance ("Should be be here right now?" lol). My favourite female character romance option in any RPG was Solas in DA: Inquisition, because it was more of a deep and tragic true love story romance, rather than sexual or fan service driven. Very Shakespearean. Also no cringe sex scene AND truly expanded the narrative, plot and storytelling?! Well done!! :p
/end weird deviation into fem PC romances. :D
I think it goes without saying that a good percentage of men tend to gravitate towards members of the opposite sex for... various reasons. :) :)
It also goes without saying that this also applies to marketing towards men. It never hurts to use female imagery in the pursuit of men's pocketbooks. Or handsome male imagery for women.
Just because men end up playing male characters which they identify and relate more with (since they're males), doesn't mean that they're put off by the marketing of female V more than male V. They're probably reacting more positively to the game because of it and don't even realise it (unless you have an issue with women which is a whole other story).
Or could care less that fem V is somehow canon (she's not canon as canon isn't a thing in modern RPGS with the inception of importing save files/choices from previous games aka Mass Effect 1-->2 etc.).
Edit: Like the above poster just stated in a question: Femshep was not canon and never was (neither was maleshep). The Mass Effect 3 marketing of her was because they finally made the premade character mesh preset for her that Maleshep had since ME1.
I thought they might have chosen one to represent Shepard in tie-in media, which often determines who the player character is "canonically." But so far as I can tell Shepard isn't directly in any of the comics or novels they did for it. Seems pretty deliberate for Shepard to never pop up.
It's interesting seeing how many players only seem to play extensions of themselves. Like they can't play a Shepard or V who doesn't look like themselves. Or maybe it's just when certain characteristics don't match that people get all weird about it.
