Where is the option to revert or stay at 2.12a
Forced updates and changing data on our systems without permission should not be allowed. Nearly every other game gives a warning that, "Hey, we are going to mess up your mods, saved game data or something else if you install this update, but here is an option in settings to stay at your current version until you are ready to update."

Literally PEBCAK.

If you can't take two minutes out of your day to disable auto-updates for games on Steam, you're practically asking for it to happen to you. It's no different to sticking your hand in a nest of fire ants and complaining that you got stung.

Yes, on your part...

Go into settings, there is no option to stay at the current version.

If you disable auto update, the game updates on launch.

The only way to STOP an update is to not play it, or select an option in settings that reserves your current version.

There is currently an option to revert to 1.63. But not to 2.12a.

But thank you for stopping by to troll with a less than intelligent response.

Haven't played CP2077 in a really long time, bought a new PC built by satan himself and spent the last 2 days modding the game to look like no game I've ever played. Started my playthrough today and wham ^^ really bad timing.

Again, literally PEBCAK.

The game does not have any DRM whatsoever. You don't need to be online to play it (therefore the game can't update). Christ, you don't even need the Steam client open to launch and play the game! There are so many methods to stop auto-updates but you chose to do none of them.

So again, you're asking for it.

I do not see how having the knowledge to prevent your games from auto-updating falls under "trolling" but alright. This is one of the few games on Steam that you can just launch the .exe and play the game directly without Steam or being online.

To my knowledge there is no longer a way to stop steam from updating a game, even if you tell it to not auto update. Instead of the play button you get an update button. Very few games allow you to go back to a previous version.

But for the sake the thread, this is how to can suspend auto updates to make them manual instead, in case you didn't know. But it sounds like you've already done this. So I guess this is for those that don't know.

1. Select the game you want to disable auto updates for and right-click on it in your Steam Library.
2. Choose “Properties” from the context menu.
3. In the Properties window, navigate to the “Updates” tab.
4. Select the “Only update this game when I launch it” option from the drop-down menu.

After changing the automatic updates setting, press “Steam” in your Steam client and select “Go Offline” to ensure the game doesn’t update when you’re not actively playing it. While not a permanent solution, it will at least allow you to get through a game before you need to update again.

You can disable auto updates for individual games, but not for the Steam client itself.
Some users have reported that even with this setting, Steam may still attempt to update games when you’re not actively playing them. To avoid this, you can disconnect from the internet or use a firewall to block Steam’s update requests.
If you have a large library of games, repeating these steps for each game may be tedious. However, this method ensures you have control over which games update automatically.

Not true. Once you've disabled auto updates (or rather, set it to only update on launch), there are two ways to continue playing without updating the game.

1'st is to simply set Steam to offline-mode before launching the game. Steam will not update when set to offline mode. The downside? Well if you use your Steam friends list a lot, then your friends won't know you are actually online, as that's also disabled by going in to offline mode.

2'nd option is to bypass Steam entirely, by launching the game directly from it's Cyberpunk2077.exe file. This usually doesen't work with Steam games, but Cyberpunk is an exception, it can and will run without Steam. The downside? Well you obviously can't use any of Steam's features if you run the game outside of Steam, so no Steam overlay or other such Steam specific features.

Yeah...

I did this but steam updated before I could stop it... 3 gb patch was over and done with in a few seconds on my system.

Ouch.

I had that happen to me in the 2.12 to 2.12a transition.

2.12 borked my modded game hard, tried updating all the mods, still woulden't work, so i eventually had to do a clean reinstall of the game and all my mods to get it up and running again. Problem is i forgot that when you do a reinstall your auto-update settings will be reverted back to default. The 2.12a hotfix landed soon after, the game auto-updated, and i was most displeased..

You have my sympathies. Let's just hope the mods get updated sharp'ish.

I almost forgot, as someone mentioned earlier, some games like cyberpunk allow you to play it entirely without Steam. Playing this way means no achievements, friend list, or the steam overlay, and everything else steam brings to the game, but you can play it entirely without steam this way.

Here's how.

In your library, right click on Cyberpunk 2077
Click properties then click on Installed Files on the left.
Then click browse on the right hand side near the top.
That will open a window to the base folder where cyberpunk is installed.

From there you can either use the redlauncher, or go into bin folder, then the x64 folder, and use the cyberpunk exe directly to start the game.
If you drag the exe to your desktop you can make a shortcut, if you're into that kind of thing, so you'll only ever have to go through the above steps once to launch it entirely without Steam.

Here's hoping it only takes a few days for all the mods to update. Mod developers are usually pretty good at getting things fixed inside a week or so. Some of them have dependencies like red4ext and cyberware-ex and other such under the hood mods that will also have to update for compatibility as well. That can take time for people to update so everything works again the way you like it.

I have went into the steam console and entered:

download_depot 1091500 1091501 3807385820978085162

First number is the App ID, The second number is the Depot Number and the last is the manifest.

Steam downloads this manifest to ..\steam\steamapps\content\app_1091500\depot_1091501\

When it is done, it will direct you to this location, then simply dump the contents into cyberpunk 2077 and you will be reverted back to 2.12a

It's easily avoided as others have said, only set games to update when launched, then if a game you use which has mods installed has an update, set Steam to offline, play then go back online afterwards while waiting for mods to be updated.

I had the game set to update on launch.

I did not know there was a patch available.

My bandwidth is super high, the download was done in seconds... and steam patched before I could hit the pause.

Avoidable, yes, but only if forewarned.

No because I don't have Redmod active via steam. And that was the only thing touched by the patch regarding 2.13 but there is a manifest for it in 2.12a
