How's the inventory dealt with in this game?
I used to love RPGs but I just can't get into them anymore because of the hours of inventory maintenance that is required. I'm talking about the endless flower collections, 10k different swords to sort through, playing cards to collect, recipes, etc. I couldn't get into the Witcher for that very reason and one look at BG3 tells me that's like 50% of the "gameplay" on offer. So how does this game rate on the flower collection meter?

you can sell/dismantle anything you want.
there is a lot of junk you can pick up. but you only need it to take it appart (except for the few items like jewelry that sells for around 300 to 500 each, which i save for selling when i need a bit of extra cash)

collectables, yeah there are a LOT of shards. but they dont physically go into your inventory (apart from a few special ones)
we have 5 levels of stuff. white, green, blue, purple and golden (orange-yellow)
things start to drop in these qualites as you level up, and you can then sell or take apart most things for parts.

clothing... you dont need to save any of them, we have a wardrobe system that keeps the 'appearance' of any item you put on once.
(unless you are using the EquipmentXL mod, in which case you need to keep one of something you like the look of, in your stash)
but there is a set of items that have a quote by a famous in universe person on them. the legendary sets. there is one for each of the tabletop games 'roll' (class)
these collectables show up once, at specific places on the map, as 'hidden gems'
you can find them via guides, or using the mod(s) for finding them (missing persons: fixers hidden gems mod, and its expansion add on)

weapons...there are lots and lots of them. legendarys drop here and there (gold, special background to the tooltip) that you can fill V's stash wall with. (not all of them fit, but there are enough)
you dont *need* any of them to finish the game. you could punch the whole of NC to death with just your fists, if you wanted to, and still end the game, after selling every single thing but quest items.

recipes... there are weapon and quickhack ones. some drop instead of weapons, some are bought. some quickhack recipes can be bought, some are only found. one or two recipes are only given if you complete certain quest pathways, or end the game at least once.

cars... you buy them, you find them, you get given them as rewards. they go in your 'garage' and you get a list you can choose from when you 'summon' your vehicle.

there is a string of collectables you can fill V's H10 apartment with. one each for 'romancing' one of the main 4 choices (River, Kerry, Panam or Judy)
a cat, an iguana. a couple of posters. a dream catcher. a small flying TraumaTeam AV toy that can fly around your room.
you get one specific item on your desk, depending on which lifepath you chose. (arasaka clock-Corpo, City Center diorama-streetkid and model car-nomad iirc)

you can keep your stash empty if you want, or fill it with junk lol.
but there are only achevements for collecting all of Johnny SIlverhand's items
(top, sunglasses, boots, pants, gun, car) only the boots and pants can be missed (car can still be gained, whichever choice you make at the docks)

you equip whichever items of gear get you the slightest bonus, and pick a wardrobe 'look' to cover V with.
(so your gear might look on the inventory screen, like you got dressed in the dark from a box of cast of clown gear... but your appearance is whichever of the 6 slots of 'looks' you create)
there are a few 'outfit' items you can place in the outfit slot (hazmat suits, quest items ect) that override them, but those are few and far between.

technically you could sell/take apart everything but quest items and still survive due to Cyberware being the main way to boost armour and fight.

I've reached max street cred and level 35-ish. Most of the time I just used my regular gear and collect stuff until it gets to be too much, then dump it in my stash. But every so often, I do go through it all and work out what weapons/upgrades/mods I should be using, and what junk I should sell or break down into crafting components.

There is a tarot card collecting side quest, but they are mostly marked on the map for your convenience.

There are crafting recipes that can be obtained through shops and out in the world. But you don't have to bother with crafting if you don't want to. Mostly I just upgrade my crafting components to better tier components so I can upgrade my cyberware.

A short way to put it is that you have "schrodinger's inventory". It only really exists when needed. Not counting the weight.
If you're not carrying any items of a certain type (guns, melee, clothing, etc) then that part of your inventory ceases to exist.
Until you next pick up one of those sorts of items, then it does exist.

If you just want to see what it look like I found this video. They guys advice seems a little hit and miss (e.g. don't drop items you don't need if overweight, scrap them for components which don't have weight and you always need more of) but it does show the inventory as it appears in the game.

I pick up everything and dump all in the machines that give eddies for it.
with all these nice iconic weapons I not even using normal weapons anymore.
they just eddies to me.
