LMAO
Yeah, that line was my highlight in that whole romance, too. *lol* I much prefer Judy, at least she seems to care about V. When she's drunk. Maybe even when she isn't. :D
Edit to add: Meredith Stout is cool. Not clingy at all, no strings attached ... I like that.
Idk, he has a wife, doesn't he? Or at least a family, I didn't want to get mixed up in that, even though it's just a game. It didn't feel right. When I play as female V I will likely romance Judy instead
I am currently going to play as a male V ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ corpo, and I'll likely not romance anyone during this playthough, seeing as I made my character look like Keanu Reeves as best I could, and I'm trying to just make him behave as much of an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as Johnny Silverhand, just to see how Johhny will react. I'll just be hitting up JoyToys lmao
panam friendzoned me though :(
Rare to hear anybody say that but I really liked him too. He seems like a genuinely good guy and I think he really cares about V. I just wish his questline had been a couple missions longer so that we could bond with him better.
Ugh, i hate this mission, it's the only one that i actively dislike.
And the female Joytoys.

River is not really a popular character, but it doesn't matter to me, I would also like his quest line to be several quests longer. You're right, River really cares about V, maybe even more than the rest of the characters. I got this impression after going through one of the endings where V makes a call to all his friends.
However, I am worried that in the continuation of the game (if it ever appears), River may simply be deleted from the plot, it will be unfair.
I don't think that's the issue. The people who don't like River seem to dislike him primarily because you spend so little time with him, which to some people makes his very sudden romantic feelings twords V feel insincere or even downright creepy or suspect. A couple more good quests with him would resolve a lot of this, assuming they would allow for a more natural connection to happen.
Many others like myself do like him as a character, but only as a friend... which is why we don't like that V is forced to string him along and flirt with him, only to say "Nope! Welcome to the friendzone!" at the last minute.
In the other romance questlines, atleast Judy's and Panam's for sure, you can establish early on that you're not looking to date them if that's not what you want. An easy way to do this is to accept the money when they offer to pay your Merc fee before a mission. There are other oppertunities aswell.
Not so with River, atleast i am not aware of, or noticed any dialog option that would accomplish this.
It seems regardless of what you do, he's going to invite you over for dinner and then he's going to hit on you. There seems to be no way to head this off at the pass, and more to the point, there isen't even a way to stop V from flirting back at him (even though you might already be in a relationship with Judy at this point). You are forced to play along and pretend you're into him for a good 20 minutes+ before you are finally allowed a choice to say no at the very end.
That is my problem with the River romance. First up it paints V in a very negative light, if you don't want to date River, then you're forced to watch your V string this poor guy along for this entire date, only to crush his balls at the finish line. Who does that? That's just cruel. And again, you can already be in a relationship when V's doing this, which makes V look like a cheat to top it all off.
Secondly, it means you are infact forced to go on a date with the guy even if you don't want to (you can avoid the sex scene, but not the date). We're not all going to be cool with that. I'm a childhood rape survivor, i have some pretty serious issues with being forced into an intimate setting with a male character like this, as in, full blown PTSD issues... this is not a pleasant experiance for me, to put it very mildly.
I'd love for River to get some more screen time, get some more and much needed character development, but i also really want an option to just be chooms with the guy and nothing more, without being forced to go on a date with the guy first.
I am sorry to read that the situation in the game caused you such unpleasant memories. The developers should have worked better on the smooth transition of relationships between V and other characters, but they did not. That is why many moments look rather strange.
It should also be said that the developers were too lazy to make any variation in the romance. All 4 romance, regardless of V gender, have the same development of events up to a certain point (in all cases, this is essentially a date and a moment with a kiss). Thus, it looks as if Panam and Kerry are flirting with the female V as well, despite the fact that they are exclusively interested in the man.
In terms of an enjoyable gaming experience, I would recommend Mass Effect if you haven't played this trilogy yet. Perhaps this game will be more comfortable for you.
