First playthrough - Should I install "City of Dreams"?
Topic.

I'm about to begin my first playthrough. I usually like to install a few mods on my games, but this one has just too many. I can't really tell which ones would be "best" to start with.

When I was browsing through the catalog, I stumbled upon this mod called "City of Dreams", which is a collection of mods considered the best by the author. I noticed this collection has a lot of endorsements, so it should be nice. I got tempted, because then I wouldn't have to spend so long searching for and installing mods individually. However, at the same time, I feel kinda apprehensive because it will definitely add a lot of stuff to a game which already has a lot of content.

That being said, I would like your opinion. Is it worth it to install this mod for my first playthrough? And if not, would you recommend anything else instead?

Also, it's worth mentioning that this mod has a "lite" version, so maybe that could be an alternative.

Install them. More mods = better game

Just remember that if you install mods and your game starts bugging out, it's most likely your mods having conflicts. I'd play vanilla first, then see if you want to install some mods along the way or maybe leave them for a 2nd playthrough.

No way man, that's 1295 (!) mods

Most of them bieng poses/clothing for Female V or stuff that a first time player wouldnt even care about.

If you want to mod, just browse the mod pages and take what you like (ofcourse checking it still runs with the most recent update)

But if you REALY and I mean REALY want to take a collection, it's better to start with Welcome to Night City 2.13

which has only a fifth of the mods that the other collection does.

I would recommend playing the game first without mods. They aren't necessary in any way.

After playing for a while, you will be able to better appreciate what might improve the game without changing it a lot. Add mods individually...adding collections can be confusing, esp. if you have to troubleshoot when mods cause problems in your game.

No.

You will make yourself your city of dreams. Play for a while then you can search for mods to change what you don't like or what you miss

This.

The mod which lets you reset your stats unlimited times and one mod to increase/remove the lvl cap is more less needed.

If you don't install a mod which will increase the lvl cap you'll hit the cap at around 30-40% of the games content. Which kinda removes all motivation to do any sidequests, explore etc.

For any other mods, - just stick to the base game. It'll become a buggy mess if you install to many without knowing what you do/how they interact with each other.

Only if your only motivation to do those things is "leveling".

Thanks a lot, everyone. I forgot to add, but nowadays I don't have that much time to game anymore, so I don't really replay games. I'd rather just play something else. That's why I usually prefer to play a modded game from the start.

However, after reading everything, I think the idea of playing vanilla and downloading mods to modify things that I don't like makes more sense.

Good decision. The mods I use (like 5 in total) are specific to character skin or hair, the game is completely fine without mods, this is not a Bethesda game.

The best approach is play vanilla first and see what works for you and what doesn't... but with that said, I'll still recommend some mods that you won't regret having from the start.

Before anything, always make sure to read description and that you have installed the requirements mods first (like Cyber Engine Tweaks, redscript, cybercmd, RED4ext, Input Loader, Archive XL, Tweak XL, Native UI, Mod Settings or Codeware).

Mod List:

Limited HUD (full HUD customization to your liking)

Kinda Realistic Flashlight (game doesn't have one, so it's a nice addition. And it's customizable too)

Responsive NPCs (makes all NPCs a little more reactive to your actions, unlike vanilla which is lacking a lot in this aspect)

Reset Atributtes (self explanatory, saves you from having to reload old saves and lose progress if you ever want to respec and change playstyle)

Immersive Timeskip (makes it possible to skip time and see how the world changes in real time, contrary to vanilla where you just stare at a menu)

Melee Attacks Fixes And Enhancements (fixes and adds minor details for melee combat, such as correct direction in which enemies are pushed after being hit by the player with melee attack)

Better Windows (visual improvement of building windows)

Silent Silencers And Throwing Knives (makes it so weapons with silencers and knive throw kills don't trigger combat automatically. Great for fluid Stealth gameplay. A feature that should have been part of vanilla)

Authentic Shift (better sound for cars, overall)

Driver Combat 2.0 (changes several things for driving, mostly camera works, better FOV for FPP and other improvements)

Immersive FPP Bike Cam (goes hand in hand with DC2.0, just a better camera work for bikes in first person perspective)

I'm listing all these mods from my own list of mods that I'm using, and they are all working properly, as long as the required core mods are installed.

And if you find combat a bit mindlessly easy, seeing enemies either stand for a second before they start shooting at you or if they seem to miss on purpose after they hit you once, No Shooting Delay and Harder Gunfights improve exactly those two scenarios, respectively.

If you install a mod on this game, you more than likely need the base 5-6 mods to run any actual mod. Then the game can get borked after prolong playing. I just use CET and that's it, it doesnt actually count as a mod. Plus most of the mods on this game on Nexus are broken and have not been updated for over a year.

without accounting for the base mods, I still have +40 and they all work fine. I spent the whole week modding thegame. So far, only had the game crash once, and I knew exactly what mod introduced a conflict that led to the crash, and simply removed it.

The key is in being cautious with what I install, not installing any big visual or gameplay overhauls, and making sure mods are still working and/or are not breaking anything(which most of the time, it just takes to read the comments made by other people).

Necessary? No. Great additions to the game? Yes. If it wasn't for the modding scene, then I would've left this game a long time ago.

Of course, I mean things like:
- Braindance mod
- Taxi job mod
- Courier mod to deliver items
- Shooting gallery mod
- Stocks mod
- Car tuning mod
- Chop shop mod
- Sit anywhere mod
- Lean anywhere mod
- Idle anywhere mod (smoke, drink, eat with animations)
- More arcade games mod
- Cyber Vehicle Overhaul mod

All essential things that make playing this game a great deal better than the vanilla counterpart. So while their not necessary, technically, these mods are very necessary for me.
