Yeah some people like to actually own their games. GOG games have no DRM so you can download the games installers and copy them infinitely onto USB sticks/SSDs/HDDs or whatever storage type you want.

Any time I can get a game on GOG instead of Steam I do so, because they don't allow developers to astroturf the community there.

I prefer GOG to Steam. 30 refund window, no DRM, no client required, can download installers to make backups if you care about that stuff. And I like their site layout better. Only thing Steam has for me is more active forums.
