Why not turn Adam Smasher into a full machine?
As far as we know, his brain is the only thing left of his human body.
It would be easy to make a soul imprint with the Soulkiller and insert it into an artificial brain.

Soulkiller or the new brain could accidentally alter his memories, his attitude or the calibration between his functioning nerves and the robot body, I suppose. His specific brain chemistry might still be the best fit for the body they gave him.

Last thing anyone who employs Smasher would want is a Smasher that works off of logic instead of (near?) psychosis. It's his emotional state that makes Smasher who he is and valuable to those who need that kind of raw reactivity.

We haven't seen an engram on an artificial brain. We've heard about replicas that people can visit (if they're rich), but we don't know what they're like. We've only seen one engram with emotions printing itself on a living brain. We know of another engram that has the directive to get imprinted on a living brain.

I'm going to go with artificial digital brain ≠ biological brain.

Neural plasticity.

The answer to why can be found in the game already. However it is ending related, so spoiler at own risk. First spoiler is what ending, second is one part required. Third is details.

1.Choose to work with Hanako and Arasaka ending.

2.Send Jackie's body to Victor

3.Look at Mikoshi requires to process an engram. Johnny said existence is different there. Alt changed. So a robotic body simply couldnt be a fully functioning engram. How Jackie ties in is the ending with Arasaka. If went to Vic, Arasaka takes him and does soulkiller. The engram is rigid. It cannot change or adapt.

We also have Alt. A freeform consciousness unrestricted evolves. It is the same at this point like an AI. Unlimited evolution. Imagine Alt with a mindset like smasher....

Too expensive.

Nobody is gonna spend that much for a bodyguard/merc to have their mind put in an artificial brain.

Only the richest of the rich get to have that.

But in another ending there is the resurrection of Saburo. They actually upload his engram into his son's body and brain. That engram does not seem rigid to me. Fully capable of pick up the line where the real Saburo lost it.

Really? I think all the tech that Adam has on him already cost a fortune. And his employee has all the money in the world too, and no need to pay for anyone since he has all the tech on deck.

He is a full machine, anything resembling human is simply a coincidence.
