The food is made out of fried ground crickets. The company behind the idea also tried to use planarian flatworms as food source, but people weren't fond of the idea ("eating worms"). Poultry is illegal.
Street food is apparently a hellish mix of chemicals.
There are many other fun pieces of the lore. For example
Marine travel is dead, because during corp wars, some cretin released a self-replicating AI there which builds mines in oceans. The AI went rogue, and every ship that tries to travel through ocean is blown to bits.
Honestly, most likely the planet itself is dying in that world. Especially when you read about green antarctica and extreme weather in europe.
At least one talks about exterminating all avian life act or such.
However, out in the desert should be a different story imo.
