Allright then, you're excused.
I don't exactly know what makes the save file going bigger and bigger, every discussion I've read about it, the crafting system was mentionned, there seems to be a problem with sold items not disappearing completely somehow, and stacking on and on... making your save file going up in size. Loading times being longer too as you reach the limit, to the point it really feels like something wrong is going on.
Right now the best thing to do is just to watch your file size every few days just to be sure, but considering how many people reported the issue, that should be adressed quite fast, as it's definitely a major problem if it happens after one week of release.
and i can see the file size being an even bigger problem when they add new DLCs that just adds more content.
I dont even understand why there is a limit to start with, imagine having to worry about doing stuff in a game because it can increase the size of your save file, and in the end it might just kill your save file because you have done too much in an open-world where looting, crafting and exploration is a big part of the game.
The size of save file is not the problem, its a symptom of the problem. The problem is crafting more then 65536 unique items. Since all thes user-created items get stored in the save file (unlike all the items you can find on the map), the size of the save file increases as you use up your crafting limit.
As long as you are not crafting rifle on an industrial scale, everyting is fine.
I haven't done any crafting whatsoever, just been looting/selling a lot, and dismantling rare items for future crafting potentially. I'm already at 5.4 megs and still have the final mission, 10 side gigs, and dozens of the blue icons left to finish. Not to mention all the future DLC that will be dropping. My save as it stands right now will most likely become corrupt before I'm able to finish everything. This is a huge design flaw.
If this is some engine limitation then fine... but why in gods name make it a looter shooter then? Why??
I went the loot all and everything i can find and store all blue and purple and legandery guns and clothes and went crafting as well so i most likely getting close to it and i do a lot of side missions to : /

true, it's not a limit but what different sources say:
"The major cause for this is the item crafting, which increases the file size tremendously as you create more and more items. As for the exact file size, it seems that various players have personally tested this and found that to be the limit. And you can’t get rid of items to lower the file size either, as it permanently increases once the item is created.
It seems this major bug happened because the problem isn’t an arbitrary data size limit but a data structure issue. Save data beyond 8MB will save into other data structures until it overwrites critical data that permanently corrupts the save file."
If you read the thread on the CDPRs forum, the cap is 8,191KB before it just breaks.
AKA when you get above 8MB, it will overwrite important data, so it's safe to say that the limit is 8MB before it will happen.
Crafting is an "Important" part of the game. looting aswell, we're getting showered with items.
If you want everything in the game, all cars, best cybernetics and so on, you do need a large amount of money, and crafting can get you that, and imagine having to worry about how many items you craft and loot, because if you loot/craft too much, it's just game over.
this IS a gamebreaking bug then and should be fixed fast. But the only thing we heard is a moderator on their forums pretty much saying "just load an older save, i dont know what else to say"
