Corrupted save file if it's over 8MB
I just watched the lastest YongYea video about cyberpunk.
Link if you want to watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If6RgU14hb0&ab_channel=YongYea

but the TL;DR story is: CDPR put a 8MB max size for save files, if you get above that your save file can get corrupted and you can't play it anymore.
CDPR said they MIGHT change it. keyword is might, not even "yes this was pretty stupid lets change it". just a might/maybe.

I checked my "PointOfNoReturn" save file and it was already 5 MB, thats with half of the gigs left and 2 major side questlines.

so if you dont want to lose all your progress, pls check your lastest save file size to make sure you stay below 8MB

Thanks, but anyway on these forums saying anything that is not pure filth against anything about the game makes you a fanboy for most, even when you clearly state the problem is real and should be adressed...
like i said, im sorry, somehow that line skipped my eyes.

But yeah, it should be fixed no matter what, it's still a stupid system and i dont know when last time a save file size has been a problem in a game.

I dont even know how your file is so small while mine is 5 MB, and i barely even touched crafting. I have done judys and panams questlines, the main story and like half of the gigs and police stuff.

Allright then, you're excused.

I don't exactly know what makes the save file going bigger and bigger, every discussion I've read about it, the crafting system was mentionned, there seems to be a problem with sold items not disappearing completely somehow, and stacking on and on... making your save file going up in size. Loading times being longer too as you reach the limit, to the point it really feels like something wrong is going on.

Right now the best thing to do is just to watch your file size every few days just to be sure, but considering how many people reported the issue, that should be adressed quite fast, as it's definitely a major problem if it happens after one week of release.

You generated more open world data, that's basically it
Every time the game loads a new container's content it has to create new unique IDs for the armors and weapons inside

If it's not possible to both get serious with the crafting economy (i mean there's even a lvl 20 perk designed exactly for that purpose) and do all the quests + looting, then we clearly have (another) big problem directly related to the game being at best unfinished, more likely straight up poorly designed

and i can see the file size being an even bigger problem when they add new DLCs that just adds more content.

It was already adressed. they "might" change it. The big keyword being "might" that really just means a maybe.
I dont even understand why there is a limit to start with, imagine having to worry about doing stuff in a game because it can increase the size of your save file, and in the end it might just kill your save file because you have done too much in an open-world where looting, crafting and exploration is a big part of the game.

And again: There is no 8 MB limit for the size of the save file.

The size of save file is not the problem, its a symptom of the problem. The problem is crafting more then 65536 unique items. Since all thes user-created items get stored in the save file (unlike all the items you can find on the map), the size of the save file increases as you use up your crafting limit.
As long as you are not crafting rifle on an industrial scale, everyting is fine.
DanTheMan 20 DIC 2020 a las 11:21 a. m.
so why is 8MB the save file size limit? that seems stupidly small.... Should of been 64MB or more.

This seems stupid. If you delete a crafted item, why would the data still be there? makes 0 sense to me.

Ive done all major and side quests, done most gigs excpet 3 or 4 in Watson, and used the item dupe glitch to get thousands upon thousands of materials and my save is at 5.7 MB. Idk how much you'd need to do to get to 8. Just checked mine.

You have to be wary of YongYea, He's a bit rabid about CP'77...things that he excuses or downplays with other developers he's leaping right onto with CDPR. I think he's upset he's not getting freebies.

Problem occurs mostly for people abusing / cheating with the crafting system.

It shouldn't be that low, but if you're going by the rules without messing with unplanned actions, you should be fine. There's a lot of people on CDProjekt Red Forums mentionning this problem, almost all players encountering this problem abused the crafting system in one way or the other.

Got 60hours in, collecting every ♥♥♥♥ I see on screen, and crafting quite a lot, my save file is around 3mb.

I haven't done any crafting whatsoever, just been looting/selling a lot, and dismantling rare items for future crafting potentially. I'm already at 5.4 megs and still have the final mission, 10 side gigs, and dozens of the blue icons left to finish. Not to mention all the future DLC that will be dropping. My save as it stands right now will most likely become corrupt before I'm able to finish everything. This is a huge design flaw.

If this is some engine limitation then fine... but why in gods name make it a looter shooter then? Why??

yeah that is true, but he isn't the only one talking about it.

true, it's not a limit but what different sources say:

"The major cause for this is the item crafting, which increases the file size tremendously as you create more and more items. As for the exact file size, it seems that various players have personally tested this and found that to be the limit. And you can’t get rid of items to lower the file size either, as it permanently increases once the item is created.

It seems this major bug happened because the problem isn’t an arbitrary data size limit but a data structure issue. Save data beyond 8MB will save into other data structures until it overwrites critical data that permanently corrupts the save file."

If you read the thread on the CDPRs forum, the cap is 8,191KB before it just breaks.
AKA when you get above 8MB, it will overwrite important data, so it's safe to say that the limit is 8MB before it will happen.

Crafting is an "Important" part of the game. looting aswell, we're getting showered with items.
If you want everything in the game, all cars, best cybernetics and so on, you do need a large amount of money, and crafting can get you that, and imagine having to worry about how many items you craft and loot, because if you loot/craft too much, it's just game over.

this IS a gamebreaking bug then and should be fixed fast. But the only thing we heard is a moderator on their forums pretty much saying "just load an older save, i dont know what else to say"
