Game is much more immersive with crowd density set to low
Not only do large crowds hurt your performance, they are also braindead. Literally see an npc float in the air or walk over a car every 5 seconds with high crowd density. I also see duplicate npcs all the time lol. And it's 2077, I imagine most people would be inside doing some vr ♥♥♥♥. Graphics are too nice to be ruined by braindead pedestrians lol

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, instantly gained 30 fps in a lot of places with this. This has by far the biggest impact of any fps setting.

the only thing that bothers me about NPCs is that they tend to spawn despawn when I fight which is immersion breaking but other thean that I don't stalk them or follow them to see what they do and I only saw them bug around 2 times in 45 hours so I'm okey with that...

NPCs don't really add much to the game other than "it's a crowded town" aspect. I've reduced it to medium, if only to stop bumping into them everywhere I go.

Just get better CPU and more RAM, so NPCs won't bug and won't hurt your performance.

tbh i totaly disagree i run on medium for some time but the problem is that also car spawns are way less then the city feels life less with anything esle then high.
there are various other settings one can tweak instead of this one.

I don't struggle to run this game. I already got 16gb and a 3600x so yeahh....

way waaaaay too many people walking around in center of city...but it's a city and it does make it more immersive seeing all these people walking around.....but you run into them a lot trying to move around on default setting....very annoying. So yeah...lower crowd density and it will clear them out!!! enjoy less people lol

16 GB is on the edge for modern gaming PC. 3600X isn't enough without SMT. 1.05 added SMT support for 3600X. Should improve NPC repeated animations and perfromance.

I'm okay with turning them to low because they don't do anything anyway. The emergent AI quests that were supposed to be in the game (randos running up to you and saying "SABE MAH BAY-BAY!!" a la skyrim) were cut. So now they're literally just moving obstacles that refuse to move when you honk your car horn.

I feel like it depends on the place but I've recently decided to keep it on low. Outside V's apartment building 'low' seems to be the more believable setting, but clubs seem too empty and industrial areas feel like a ghost town almost entirely devoid of workers.

HOWEVER any place that has a lot of NPCs is a place where you can get a lot of stupid NPC behaviour. Getting that ghost town feeling doesn't bother me nearly as much as seeing NPCs blinking in and out of existence so temperamentally, especially when they start freaking at nothing.

They have no interesting interactions. They just make it more difficult to be stealthy, or good, or lag-free. They can talk tough but they have zero fightback in them whatsoever.

I like dense areas, city feels alive. But whenever a fighting starts, they just sit down, which feels awkward. No one tries to flee, no one calls for help. GTA V had much more better crowd behaviour, and it's an old game.
