Would overclocking a i5-9600k help with peformance?
Ok I will make this short. I have a decently good PC and my RTX 2070 is getting bottlenecked by my i5-9600k acording to msi afterburner. My gpu almost never goes over 80% usage but my cpu sits between 90-100 in the most demanding areas. My cpu:s max temperature is 59 degrees and that should make it safe to overlock right? Would it help much? I don't have the money to upgrade at the moment and it is my cpu that's limiting me from the 60 fps.

CPUs are much more robust than people think. Unless you try and POST something like 1.8-1.9v+ it wont die. The main effect of repeated overheating is degradation where the chip will need more voltage for the same frequency to be stable.

And if they are asking if OC will improve performance, what do you think?
[eye roll/face palm]

Probably not
+500MHz on all cores would be a significant performance increase.

There's no reason to not overclock. You should be at 5GHz or above all cores.
Sure, and OP probably has a stock cooler.
Don't offer fool's advice to someone who owns a K chip and is asking if they should OC to increase performance.

I have a Bequiet cooler. I believe it's the Pure Rock 2.

Not, If I were to turn off my OC on my cpu the fps loss would minute. Repeated overheating is bad, period. You should do a bit more research before you start giving advice.

I never understood people who bought i5 for a card like 2070. it is obvious that you will get bottlenecked at some point with that combination. You better get İ7 no way you can fix this.

I may know a thing or two about overclocking - https://hwbot.org/user/knock/

Yeah ok, that means nothing to me. I know a good deal myself.

Well, HWBOT is where the worlds best overclockers submit their benchmark scores. That is my profile.

At the minimum you should be be able to set all your cores to run at the rated turbo frequency instead of just 1 with minimal or no change to CPU voltage if you're uneasy about doing it.

With a 6700k moderately oc and 2070 moderately oc I've followed almost all of the advice given above and more from previous posts. I haven't noticed much difference in fps. I can run it on virtually any setting and get the same 40 to 60 fps with very little change to the curve. It's pissing in the wind. And for the record when it's windy enough pissing with the wind is worse because it goes straight up. The game needs a little work and then because of the demand it puts on your gpu it may never run outstanding on current gen gpus.

It mostly has to do with price. There's barely any fps difference between a i5 9600k and i7-10700k. Saves you $120+ for your pc budget build.

No it will not.

OC will give you approximately 1% boost and will drain your CPU life.

Better exchange. The CPU prices right now are through the roof and 6th amd 7th gen Intells are out of stock almost everywhere. Sell yours right now and you will have enough money for a mainboard and AMD cpu that is better than yours.

I had i5 - 6500 and I swapped it for a motherboard and a brand new Ryzen 5 3600x and it costed me about 100 euro only because finding processors that use the previous 1511 chip is impossible.

I wouldn't try it just yet. Safer to wait for patches

Was whitin my budget range. Before my 9600k I had only upgraded the GPU so I was using a 4690k with a 2070. That was horrible.
