i think V says it at some point how dogs and most pets went extinct in Night City and the last gone being the cats , V also mentioned how the cats are the ones that survived the longest among pets or something like that

There are cats and dogs - But most wildlife is kind of gone due to pandemics and such. Chickens for example are illegal, which irks the Haitians in Pacifica a great deal. People don't need natural animal meat any longer. It's all synthetic.

But as far as showing them ingame? No. You will see some stray cats in specific spots at most.

There's a cat. It showed up early in the story, right outside Viks place. You could fuss it, if you wanted to. Then it was gone (the dish wasn't though - why'd people put dishes out anyway if all the animals were dead?)

You see it again at least once later, I think it's part of the main story. That's when V reveals that rats, dogs and cats were all driven out of the city in one way or another, I dunno.

No birds either. And bees are extinct except in very expensive enclosures / preservations, from what I can tell.

Future is bleak, man.

The lore and the game ARE kind of different things in this regard.

The game doesn't really show off the animal life there is, however limited it is. There are wild cats and dogs. And coyotes and such in the desert as well.

CDPR don't have anything to do with the lore... It's not their IP any more than Witcher is.
