Why do pedestrians jump in front of my car
Its starting to get ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying, I can't travel anywhere without killing random pedestrians because they literally jump in front of my car and I have 0 reaction time to stop

I just want to stop running from the police every time I want to drive to my next mission

Its like they are trying to dodge me from hitting them, but Im not driving on the sidewalk and they ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dodge into my vehicle

Edit: Here is a clip of what im talking about, I didn't kill the pedestrian in this clip but this is whats happening

Because that's what the programmers want them to do. Then you get to be attacked by all the cops that come endlessly out of a bottomless pit. That's how programmers get their kicks. Now they can come to these boards and enjoy people complaining. Seriously, though, you shouldn't have that problem all the time unless you are not driving on the road. They seem to be programmed to be sensitive to just about any swerving near them. Now that I'm no longer practicing all the time for one of Claire's races I concentrate on driving impeccably. Seems to be working.

Be aware that there are a couple of jobs where it's scripted for pedestrians to get in the way.

Never had that issue during my 3 playthroughs. At the same time, I almost never hit my breaks, aggressively cutting through the walkways, but never hitting anyone.
As a long time Carmageddon player, I know quite well how to make sure to hit the pedestrians, so I just do the opposite to that.

My advises be:
1) Don't speed up near pedestrians.
2) Don't change directions near pedestrians.
3) Slow down when approaching walkways.

Note that, outside of certain jobs, traffic controller lights will change to green as V approaches them.

(I suppose that's something to do with that eyeball tech that also masks V's face? Just a lore guess, but it's really just an anti-frustration mechanic.)

Pedestrians already in a walkway/crosswalk will begin to jog to the other side when the light changes for V, and they sometimes move directly into the path of V's oncoming vehicle.

Hah! Interesting. Does that also happen when V is pedestrian?

Maybe you should stop driving on the sidewalks first /s

Not that i've noticed... Only happens when in a car.

I just headcannon it as V hacking every traffic light as they approach it. "Fits" better than...

...it being an "anti-frustration" mechanic as Eric said above, even though that's much more likely to be the actual reason.

They will jump to a side if your vehicle is headed in their direction, so it may sound like you should try to drive in a bit more straight line on the roads? :honkhonk::lunar2019grinningpig:

Not sure if you use controller or keyboard, but for keyboard, using small taps on the steering keys is the uhm... key :lunar2019deadpanpig:

They usually jump away from the vector of your movement. If you happen to be in the process of changing direction, there is a fair chance you might've triggered them into jumping under your car.

Unfortunately, they don't differentiate between the player driving drunk, or the player just following the road around a gentle bend.

One of the reasons I only rode bikes. Also bikes are way easier to handle with keyboard.
A Apr 24, 2024 @ 10:22am
lol never heard such a thing. You probably run them over when theyre trying to cross the street and run away from you. Because if its red for the cars they'll cross the street and if you speed they'll try to hurry. Thats when you hit them.

Bikes are the superior vehicle in this game. Just ignore traffic and barrel through side alleys.

OP: I know what you are describing however it only happens as others have said when I'm swerving to either avoid hitting something or just taking a sharp turn at a high rate of speed. But however grumpy I get about them doing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it always comes back to circumstances I created leading to it, not just random people sprinting off the sidewalks into your path of travel. Sounds like you habitually drive really close to pedestrians, maybe give them a bit more space on the sidewalk, or don't try to plow through crosswalks full of people.

You've never heard of 'crash for cash'?
They are all working with the various gangs and some small corps to get cash and compensation out of a poor, hard working Merc!

Lol.
This is one reason I use bikes more than cars.
That, and the fact I drive like some old lady (ether too slow, or hiccuping along at break neck speeds)
Every....Single....Time..... I get the 911, someone cuts me off on the right-hand side when I'm headed to the oil fields..
"Sorry, Johnny.....I'll be carefull, she's your baby..I know....I know....WATCH It!, gonkface!"
*Smash.....crunch.....tinkle...tinkel.....muttering engram angry Johnny sounds*
