Not saving him is the better option, but saving him is the better way if you want that ending.

If you play the Devil ending. Saving him is the best. It doesn't offer any real benefit or loss. It is more who you will interact with. Either Andersson or Takemura. Make a Roleplaying choice.

I recently went through the entire contacts list and called them up, see if I could get some info or missions or something, and he picked up. Not sure what we chatted about, but i don't think it was anything important.

I saved him for my second attempt at a specific ending because I wasn't aware he was salvageable in that mission until then.

Minor changes (almost cosmetic, but just a tad more than that), but a tiny bit of extra time and risk to accomplish it. For all other endings, his survival ends with a nasty message, which is quite a downer when you get the endings that have most of the people praising V in their messages.

Metagaming makes it difficult for me to consider him V's friend.

If he is not dead he will be in Act 3 Last Caress mission else not, that doesn't change anything. He appears also in next mission (Personnaly I never saved him, it's just from sites)

If you save him, you get a specific Credits Voicemail from him (I don't know about the devil ending, but Temperance and Nomad endings are worth it).

Its a balance thing. He did save your life. I saved his. Debt is paid, universe is in balance. Yin is Yanged. Whatever happens next is not my biz.

Saving Takemura may be one of the phantom persons whom is secretly is trying to save V. Takemura does visit V in the ending.
