Can I uninstall Phantom Liberty until I beat main story?
I'm prob 1/2 way through with original content. I was intending to play PL DLC afterwards but somehow I got distracted and it has be starting PL quests. I keep clicking the main story quests but when it's complete it keeps making me go back to DLC quests as default which is really annoying. I want to uninstall the DLC but dont want to break game.

you can't uninstall mid playthru, because your save would rely on the expansion.

but you can ignore the phantom liberty quests... but it depends on how deep into the expansion quests you have gone.

if you had the phonecall, but did not go to the entrance to Dogtown, or enter Dogtown, you should be fine. You won't be on a timer if you have not stood on a rooftop and seen
"CD Project Red Presents...... Phantom Liberty"
once you HAVE seen that, you must complete that chunk of the expansion quests, or you will fail the questline and be locked out of the expansions main questline in that save.

(you will still be able to go into Dogtown, visit locations and do quests for people. you can access stores, but one ripperdoc may be shut. you will loose access to any of the iconic items gained via the main expansion questline.)

once you have finished that questline, you can pretty much ignore the expansions main line untill you have done everything in the basegame if you want.
there are a few points where you have 'a few days' between doing chunks.
and there is one point where once you have started it, you cannot stop till you have finished.
(it involves hacking a car.)

and yes, it ALWAYS does that.
basegame, it auto defaults to the main questlines.
at the start, it auto's to helping Judy. once that is done, it wants me to go to Afterlife (like i NEED a reason to go visit there lmao) but sometimes it wants me to help Goro.
once I was done with that, and visited Pacifica, it would always default back to the dreaded "Meet Hanako at Ember's"

at least now, you can toggle quests off (untill you complete a quest by accident, or a gig. that includes quests found via NCPD points, such as finding the underwater stash in Watson. But NCPD points and hidden gems don't reset the quest counter)

there was/are a couple mods for turning off quest markers ect, but afaik they are old (legacy 1.63) and/or bugged.

Uh..., its not that there are hundreds of Main Story Missions..., you would really want to uninstall PL just to avoid having to click an Icon on the map like once per hour ?

Seems kinda out of proportion

leaving PL for later is also a bad idea

I was kind of lost with the main story in the first place because I got sidetracked and was doing lots of side missions/gigs. So i was even more confused when it directed me to PL and I thought it had to do with the main.

I wish it were only once per hour. It's whenever I do a sidequest like a gig. Every few minutes.

There are few story missions in PL where you have to wait day or two for a "call" or something to happen, so its better to mix it with main game. You are not locked in dogtown during events of expansion, you can exit and go back to NC and do gigs or story. Another reason is if you do gigs only you will be lost in tons of info and lore by the time you will complete them all and wont recognize or understand some events in story or reasoning of certain characters or gangs. If you do main story first, then stop just before ending and do all the remaining gigs, you can forget events of story by the time you do all gigs, it really takes a lot of time considering not all of them are marked on map. In my opinion you should start phantom liberty ASAP but not below 20-25 lvl. Expansion's gigs are on another level compared to main game, that's probably how CDPR always wanted them to be, but they were in the rush back then and some gigs in NC are bland. So, focus on story and do gigs which are close to your location to level-up, then go to dogtown and complete introduction so its open, stadium has a lot of unique vendors. Dogtown itself is packed with activities and secrets.
TLDR - Story/gigs till 25 lvl>dogtown gigs and phantom liberty story+main game gigs>main game story till ending.
Expansion adds one new ending to main game

Yeah, but even without PL it would just revert to the current main mission, or not ?

It either has to revert to something or stay blank, in the latter case you would have to select what you want to do next anways, just as now. Does it make any difference if it changes to some other quest or not ?

shrug... game isn't gonna act any different. So, why worry about it.
Even the game without the DLC defaults to a single story mission (with a high chance it's not the one you want)... ur still going to be clicking on your mission select or map icons to change it.
