but you can ignore the phantom liberty quests... but it depends on how deep into the expansion quests you have gone.
if you had the phonecall, but did not go to the entrance to Dogtown, or enter Dogtown, you should be fine. You won't be on a timer if you have not stood on a rooftop and seen
"CD Project Red Presents...... Phantom Liberty"
once you HAVE seen that, you must complete that chunk of the expansion quests, or you will fail the questline and be locked out of the expansions main questline in that save.
(you will still be able to go into Dogtown, visit locations and do quests for people. you can access stores, but one ripperdoc may be shut. you will loose access to any of the iconic items gained via the main expansion questline.)
once you have finished that questline, you can pretty much ignore the expansions main line untill you have done everything in the basegame if you want.
there are a few points where you have 'a few days' between doing chunks.
and there is one point where once you have started it, you cannot stop till you have finished.
(it involves hacking a car.)
and yes, it ALWAYS does that.
basegame, it auto defaults to the main questlines.
at the start, it auto's to helping Judy. once that is done, it wants me to go to Afterlife (like i NEED a reason to go visit there lmao) but sometimes it wants me to help Goro.
once I was done with that, and visited Pacifica, it would always default back to the dreaded "Meet Hanako at Ember's"
at least now, you can toggle quests off (untill you complete a quest by accident, or a gig. that includes quests found via NCPD points, such as finding the underwater stash in Watson. But NCPD points and hidden gems don't reset the quest counter)
there was/are a couple mods for turning off quest markers ect, but afaik they are old (legacy 1.63) and/or bugged.
Seems kinda out of proportion
I was kind of lost with the main story in the first place because I got sidetracked and was doing lots of side missions/gigs. So i was even more confused when it directed me to PL and I thought it had to do with the main.
I wish it were only once per hour. It's whenever I do a sidequest like a gig. Every few minutes.
TLDR - Story/gigs till 25 lvl>dogtown gigs and phantom liberty story+main game gigs>main game story till ending.
Expansion adds one new ending to main game
Yeah, but even without PL it would just revert to the current main mission, or not ?
It either has to revert to something or stay blank, in the latter case you would have to select what you want to do next anways, just as now. Does it make any difference if it changes to some other quest or not ?
Even the game without the DLC defaults to a single story mission (with a high chance it's not the one you want)... ur still going to be clicking on your mission select or map icons to change it.
