{SOLVED} About to play first time, should I install DLC?
Edit: Thanks for all the answers!

I already own the dlc. My question is if I should install it when playing first time or not because it might interfere with certain things? Like in skyrim when I was a new player, I accidentally played the dragonborn dlc out of ignorance because the quest came my way. And so i was wondering if installing the dlc might lead to end game spoilers because I accidentally played it or something.

You can play the DLC when you want.

Install it, and I suggest you to start it before the last mission of the game

No...you should be good to install it. You will have to play well into the game before the Phantom Liberty expansion (I assume you meant _that_ DLC) becomes available to you. You will get an unmistakable message inviting you...that you can ignore until you're ready.

I recommend you play the game until you are levelled well up, have a good array of powerful weapons you can use effectively, and lots of cyberarmour on board. Phantom is a trip, and I suspect the difficulty level is a tick higher in Dogtown than in Night City proper. I found it to be so, in any case.

The DLC won't even kick in until you complete the 'Transmission' quest. So, it really doesn't affect your progress in the main game.

The storyline for the DLC won't try to get your attention until after you complete the quest "Transmission," and it will do so with (Without spoiling too much) a sketchy phonecall. Hard to miss.

After that phonecall you can choose to do the DLC, skip it entirely, or save it until the "point of no return." And like all "points of no return," you can do an ending in the vanilla game, reload the save of "no return," and do another ending. DLC included.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Is "point of no return" a mission name? so once I get that mission in my mission log, I stop playing the main quest and start dlc? or should I do dlc before the mission named "point of no return" even shows up in my mission log?

You'll know because before you enter the mission area it will pause your game and will tell you it is the point of no return.

Ahh thanks!

It is a bit disjointed how the quests and DLC were sequenced, but that is the best way to play through the game. Also, if you're interested in playing all the various endings, you'll want to to set some manual saves at key moments. The "point of no return" is pretty obvious to set a manual save, but it's a bit more murky for the PL DLC. I don't actually remember where I set the manual save, but it's worth making sure you set it if you want to see all the PL endings.
