Follow the River CTD

I am currently hard stuck in the Follow the River quest.
I am at the scene on top of the watertower where I just finished talking about his pick-up line and when I choose to Kiss him I begin to move toward him and everything freezes for a moment and then I am looking at my Desktop..
I have tried removing any River related mods i.e.. 'River Romance Enhanced' and 'I want to stay at your house-River' all mods and their requirements are fully updated and working as designed. I tried rolling back to before I arrive at the trailer park and still hit the same hard crash event at the exact same moment each time. I tried backing off graphics settings thinking maybe it was a video card crash but still no fix. Any ideas/help would be appreciated!!!
I am not using any appearance related mods on River.
Ended up getting it to go past this point by fast travelling elsewhere and doing something else. When I fast traveled back it was daytime when I sat back down to talk with River on top of the watertower and this time it let me progress through to the end. I guess maybe there is something messed up with time of day on the quest perhaps, or just leaving the area and going back fixed it???
