I tried the photorealism mod
And while it looks amazing imo and makes Cyberpunk look like one of the most realistic games out there, it takes too much of a toll on my frames to have this look on for the whole game. Path tracing and Reshade are both required and combined will both suck around 40-50fps for me which is too much in an already very demanding game.

For just walking around and admiring things, I love this look, and if you turn off the HUD it becomes even more immersive. But for regular play and combat, I have to turn this off. I'm guessing 4090s can handle this look for the whole game no problem.

yeah it looks realistic. ive never liked the desaturated look the 'realistic' mods go for.

i prefer the colourful original. style > realism imo.

If it can't be done without needing ray tracing, path tracing, then it definitely doesn't interest me. Tracing imo, should be more a optional enhancement and less a needed feature for photorealism.

Drive Club managed to be the closest game to photorealism at the time without so much as a single ray tracing feature, and that was in 2014. By now, gaming should already have gone far beyond what was done with Drive Club, and yet games seem to be stuck on some sort of tracing. Not every game of course.

It is what it is though.

Funnily enough I dusted off my PS4 and booted it up last week just to try Drive Club again just to reminisce. So many good memories with those amazing rain effect but man going back and playing in 30fps again was jarring. PC high refresh gaming really has spoiled me since then.

Looks amazing, so on a 4090 maxed out with path tracing , which in it self looks really good. I get around 90-110fps with dlss and fg . Now with this on I suspect a good drop to maybe 60-70s. I’d be interested to have a look but I’m with the other guy. I usually opt to play with just raytracing on psycho with dlss on quality and run it without ever going under 110fps cause it still looks amazing and the buttery smoothness is too good to pass up

Try a 1080p/720p and reduce FOV.

As every photorealism mod in any game, looks great for screenshots but looks like weird as F when playing and moving around.

Yeah it looks nice but takes away the cyberpunk and futuristic charm Cyberpunk 2077 has IMO, it looks like you're not in NC anymore but in a war zone in the Middle East

Feel you .

I often go back to my PS2 to play games, so I'm still pretty used to low frame rates. I play at 60 fps maximum (144 refresh rate) on PC though, so that could play a part as well.

Could you please share the modlist you used to achieve this? I've been attempting to recreate this look but to no avail

You know, by now I’ve seen quite a bit of footage from this mod but not once have I seen any sort of functional gameplay whatsoever in the slightest. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

As far as art style and direction goes, total photorealism is by far the most uninspired and insipid “style” there is since you’re mimicking reality as opposed to creating your own distinctively/uniquely recognizable art style (e.g. Minecraft, Borderlands, etc). Arguably the only practical use for this mod is for GPU benchmarking and stress-testing purposes while playability takes a backseat.

Games would first have to achieve photorealism, before I could say whether or not I prefer it as a style. Aside from DriveClub and maybe Forza Motorsport 'ish, I've seen nothing out there that looks imo, real. I've seen plenty of attempts, but nothing that has had me think that it's a game that looks like a real picture.

Until I see something along the lines of that, then I'll always be chasing that fidelity. You can say uninspired and that's totally fair, but to me, the attempt to mimic real life in game graphics is a very inspiring feat to aim for.

I had originally thought that this piece of tech was going to go somewhere, but it didn't. That would've been true photorealism in gaming:
