I have played some really really great games over the years that had wonderful graphics and Cyberpunk definitely is one of the finest looking games out there.
Not sure what you saw in your grandson's benchmark but just walking through night city, you can see the staggering amount of detail for each high rise that swalllows you whole. It is immense and sometimes, all too realistic (especially with mods).
I want to ask you a question though. Why are you concerned if you're the only one who feels this way? Would it change your mind if you found out you were the only one who felt this way or not?
But no games gave me this "wouah" every 5s like CP does...

When you say not well written do you mean code or story? If you mean code in the early days Cyberpunk was a bit buggy, but now I rarely notice. The story is delivered by A list actors and is brilliantly written with lots of twists and turns while still being an open world play as you like game.
The Phantom liberty DLC is a game in its own right, I have only played it once and it was outstandingly brilliant. Video games have always been a bit of escapism and stress relief at the end of the day for me, and I'm never going to stop playing. Cheers
Edit: Just to add when it's raining sometimes the wet look can make ncp's look a bit plastic, maybe you viewed the game when it was raining?
not unless you were born in the 30's-50's and were already old and grumpy with a distaste for dystopian sci-fi when John Brunner's 1975 novel The Shockwave Rider came out (arguably the first cyberpunk novel with many of the tropes commonly associated with the genre) or when Bruce Bethke coined the term in 1983 lol
well happy 94th birthday to you :)
That in itself is going to mean updated textures, lighting, shadows, effects in comparison to games made -> before that year. As is, the graphics still hold up overall, but, the NPCs have specifically begun to show their age against more recent games.
It happens; game visuals improve as more games are released.
Still though, nothing has yet to touch Drive Club form 2014, which I think really attests to the amount of detail that was put into that game. As in PS4 era, console only, no ability for mods, reshade, nor anything like that, and yet it still, manages to out shine racing games made today, in the visuals department. Heck, I don't even own, nor ever bought a PS4, and I can still appreciate the visual fidelity of that game.
So I guess that it really depends on the game, but imo Cp77 is very impressive, especially with Ray / Path Tracing.
You’re saying that Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are more graphically impressive than this game? Yeah OK, I understand it’s in the “eye of the beholder” and all that but objectively speaking, the last three Assassin’s Creed games have barely evolved graphically, mechanically or narratively. I’ve played all three of them and I can honestly tell you that Origins from 2017 plays, looks and feels virtually identical to Valhalla from 2020. They’re overall alright, enjoyable experiences but I’d be lying out of my A if I said the series wasn’t stagnant as hell.
None of them look “bad” per se but they DO NOT hold a candle to Cyberpunk graphically at least (animations wise, they’re closer since there’s a bit of jank in both).
And this is a bit off topic but in all three AC games, the audio is absolutely atrocious. I’ve tried different headsets, googled it and et cetera but the audio in all three sound like they were recorded with a crappy headset then had their bitrate cut in half. Literally never had this problem with any other game; just the AC series. Terrible audio quality.
Walking around Dog Town at night especially always makes me smile. And this is without path tracing

That stated, this game is comparatively on the good end of the spectrum of impressive stuff in my opinion.
As a kid, Cyberpunk tabletop was awesome. I recognize that tabletop will never translate to videogame. I have no problem isolating the two forms of Cyberpunk on their own merits. This video game has merit ever since 1.5. (I didn't get it prior to that, and 1.6 popped up shortly after.) I even take 2.x on its own merits and enjoy it as much as I did before. (There was a learning curve with 2.x, but there was a learning curve when I started with 1.5.)
If Cyberpunk isn't your thing, that's not ageism. That's a you thing. There's nothing wrong with it, but don't lump us other senior gamers in with you as if you're the standard.
Trivia: My first DIY was an 80486 (shortened to 486). It lasted 9 years before it was no longer viable. Such a thing just isn't possible anymore with what seems like exponential advancement.
