Is it my imagenation or is this games visuals not that special?
First I do not own Cyberpunk 2077. As a senior gamer a game named: Cyber Punk, does not get me excited, so I never bought it. I am to old for it's concept, but not knocking anyone if it is their thing. Anyway, my grandson does have Cyber Punk and he invited me to see it's benchmark run at max 4-K settings. He also wanted to show off his newest video card. I was interested because I know this game can really test a computers speed. So he maxes everything and I am stunned at how cartoonist the video's/visuals look. I expected a lot more and I was not impressed. The first game that comes to mind that I know looks better is, God of War and God of War does not require the horse power this game does. Next are the last three Assassin's Creed games look a lot better than this game. Granted those last three can test your computer but they look better. Metro Exodus, also stands out as being a better looking game. There is something about Cyber Punk that looks rushed and not well written in some areas of the game, visually. The game has a very bright day time with lots bright light and lots of reflected images and all that light can test a computer and maybe why face and body visuals are just okay. Maybe in the developers effort to come across edgy, they missed the boat on the visuals.

I am not here to slam the game but only to post what I have seen visually. Am I the only one?

I think the game's visuals are absolutely stunning and incredibly detailed. What they were able to achieve with this title, using Red Engine, is mind blowing to me.

I have played some really really great games over the years that had wonderful graphics and Cyberpunk definitely is one of the finest looking games out there.

Not sure what you saw in your grandson's benchmark but just walking through night city, you can see the staggering amount of detail for each high rise that swalllows you whole. It is immense and sometimes, all too realistic (especially with mods).

I want to ask you a question though. Why are you concerned if you're the only one who feels this way? Would it change your mind if you found out you were the only one who felt this way or not?

Why too old for playing CyberPunk ? I was a teen in 1977 and in the queue to see the first Star Wars movie, I was in my first job when I watched Blade Runner in 82. Now retired but still passionate for Scifi

Sure there are games with better graphics but they aren't futurist city openworld. It's not hard to have nice graphics in cutscenes, small scene, simple gameplay (Hellblade 2).

But no games gave me this "wouah" every 5s like CP does...

Hi 10Transistor, I'm a first generation gamer myself, I got hooked with pong and space invaders. Cyberpunk is my fall back game and always looked good to me. I upgraded my GPU a while back and wow a load more graphics settings. Now I find I stop and stare at the reflections in glass lol.

When you say not well written do you mean code or story? If you mean code in the early days Cyberpunk was a bit buggy, but now I rarely notice. The story is delivered by A list actors and is brilliantly written with lots of twists and turns while still being an open world play as you like game.

The Phantom liberty DLC is a game in its own right, I have only played it once and it was outstandingly brilliant. Video games have always been a bit of escapism and stress relief at the end of the day for me, and I'm never going to stop playing. Cheers

Edit: Just to add when it's raining sometimes the wet look can make ncp's look a bit plastic, maybe you viewed the game when it was raining?

the source material came out 35 years ago and the cyberpunk genre in general was at its peak in popularity about 30 years ago. if you actually think this isn't something the older crowd would like then you're not actually a "senior gamer" you're just a senior lmao (from one old person to another)

I'll be 65 yrs old in two months and i've been playing Cyberpunk2077 for awhile now and i enjoy playing it, plus other games i have . i see nothing wrong with it. i've been playing video games for almost 50 yrs , i've played some amazing games and not so amazing games. So for thoses who complain about curse words and such , take a hard look outside in IRL,it is not pretty.

I am detained right now but want to thank all of you for being nice to me as I know this is your game and I do respect that. I do want to respond to a few of you and will get back when I can.

I'm on the north of old and the game appealed to me. Having watched Blade Runner (among many 80's movies) when it came out, the environment and story really resonated with me.

not unless you were born in the 30's-50's and were already old and grumpy with a distaste for dystopian sci-fi when John Brunner's 1975 novel The Shockwave Rider came out (arguably the first cyberpunk novel with many of the tropes commonly associated with the genre) or when Bruce Bethke coined the term in 1983 lol

well happy 94th birthday to you :)

I mean, it's a game from the end of 2020. I'll repeat 2020.

That in itself is going to mean updated textures, lighting, shadows, effects in comparison to games made -> before that year. As is, the graphics still hold up overall, but, the NPCs have specifically begun to show their age against more recent games.

It happens; game visuals improve as more games are released.

Still though, nothing has yet to touch Drive Club form 2014, which I think really attests to the amount of detail that was put into that game. As in PS4 era, console only, no ability for mods, reshade, nor anything like that, and yet it still, manages to out shine racing games made today, in the visuals department. Heck, I don't even own, nor ever bought a PS4, and I can still appreciate the visual fidelity of that game.

So I guess that it really depends on the game, but imo Cp77 is very impressive, especially with Ray / Path Tracing.

… What?!

You’re saying that Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are more graphically impressive than this game? Yeah OK, I understand it’s in the “eye of the beholder” and all that but objectively speaking, the last three Assassin’s Creed games have barely evolved graphically, mechanically or narratively. I’ve played all three of them and I can honestly tell you that Origins from 2017 plays, looks and feels virtually identical to Valhalla from 2020. They’re overall alright, enjoyable experiences but I’d be lying out of my A if I said the series wasn’t stagnant as hell.

None of them look “bad” per se but they DO NOT hold a candle to Cyberpunk graphically at least (animations wise, they’re closer since there’s a bit of jank in both).

And this is a bit off topic but in all three AC games, the audio is absolutely atrocious. I’ve tried different headsets, googled it and et cetera but the audio in all three sound like they were recorded with a crappy headset then had their bitrate cut in half. Literally never had this problem with any other game; just the AC series. Terrible audio quality.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've been gaming since Pong in the 80s and Cyberpunk is one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen. Not every aspect of it looks amazing, like for example the NPCs can sometimes look very average compared to other games but on the other hand it has the best lighting I've ever seen in any game.

Walking around Dog Town at night especially always makes me smile. And this is without path tracing

Over half-a-century here. No game visuals are all that special to me because I've seen the evolution of visuals from both sides of the display over the decades. I know how they work inside and out. I know what's known to be possible, what new tricks are still being figured out, and what's not yet available.

That stated, this game is comparatively on the good end of the spectrum of impressive stuff in my opinion.

As a kid, Cyberpunk tabletop was awesome. I recognize that tabletop will never translate to videogame. I have no problem isolating the two forms of Cyberpunk on their own merits. This video game has merit ever since 1.5. (I didn't get it prior to that, and 1.6 popped up shortly after.) I even take 2.x on its own merits and enjoy it as much as I did before. (There was a learning curve with 2.x, but there was a learning curve when I started with 1.5.)

If Cyberpunk isn't your thing, that's not ageism. That's a you thing. There's nothing wrong with it, but don't lump us other senior gamers in with you as if you're the standard.

Trivia: My first DIY was an 80486 (shortened to 486). It lasted 9 years before it was no longer viable. Such a thing just isn't possible anymore with what seems like exponential advancement.
