That's correct. Normal weapons can't be upgraded at all, but iconic ones can be upgraded all the way from tier 1 to 5++.
It's exactly the same gun except with higher stats.
That makes it better.
I'm not talking about Iconics.
You don't upgrade noniconic guns anymore, you just craft them outright.
ACtually, the way Blueprints are handled in general is kinda bad.
Like, if you buy a blueprint for a Sidewinder at level 10, it'll be grey or green or whatever, so as you level up, you'll have to rebuy the same blueprint.
What's up with that? It means that there's zero point buying blueprints until you reach whatever arbitary level makes the max-level blueprints unlock, so you don't have to buy them multiple times.
But it also means that even if you want until the highest quality blueprints start spawning in shops, you'll eventually out-level those too.
This is why scaling weapons is a trash concept, tbh.
The idea of the exact same gun having different stats based on a random diceroll is dumb anyway.
A smarter way to handle it would be for each model of gun to be divided into tiers that they are ALWAYS in, and then limit access to those tiers via streetcred.
Be like "The Nova is a tier 3 revolver" and "The Overture is a tier 5 revolver."
The Sidewinder is noted to be cheap and kinda crappy for an assault-rifle, and Arasaka's brand new Nawaki is a higher grade one.
Ect ect.
They'd need a lot higher weapon variety to make that happen though.
Those same gun drops also mean you didn't waste any eddies on the BPs because eddies flow like water in nightcity (for V at least lol). Once you hit level 30 or so (WELL before 5++ wepaons) you should be struggling to spend your money fast enough. By breaking down and selling the mountain of stuff you get you're always a matter of mins from hundreds of t5 crafting parts or a milliion eddies.
also there are only some weapons where the difference between 5 and 5++ matters, for some weapons its barely different (which includes most of the non iconic weapons)... for some tho its huge, like the comrades hammer, theres a difference of like 100 damage between 5 and 5++ but thats because its a pistol that pushes your character back 3 feet every time you fire it and turns any car you're driving into a tank since its basically a hand held tank turret lol. (if you've never used the comrades hammer as your main weapon you're missing out, its a blast lol)
all that being said... use t5 gear if you want instead of 5++... with basically every weapon, even the comrades hammer, not upgrading it or not being able to upgrade it only means shooting 1 more bullet maybe 2 even on very hard.
