Gigs get tougher as you go up the ranks. I found them quite enjoyable, and a good money maker.
Early ones are "go fetch" as you say, but later ones are not.
So if you don't enjoy the gigs, it might be argued this game is simply not for you. Speaking strictly for myself, I found most gigs actually quite interesting, but then, my goal was to do them quietly. If you gunned your way through them I can readily imagine you might have found them less engaging because shooting is ultimately the easy way out.
Weird response, brother. I've finished my first playthrough over the course of a hundred hours, I'm currently wrapping up some of the leftover content while I plan my second playthrough, and I'm hearing you tell me the game might not be for me (!) because I wasn't so into a limited subset of the side content. Ran a stealth netrunner build, btw, as I do find it a lot more engaging than a guns-blazing approach, but I'm not about to criticize someone for preferring the latter.
Maybe you misunderstood me? I know V has to run gigs. A lot of great side jobs and even main quests were gigs. I'm specifically referring to those quests which the game explicitly considers gigs, denoting them by a blue icon.
