Pretty sure I've done that -- not in an intentional way, but in a "crap crap why isn't this working I'm about to get hit" sort of way. Also, at other times, single-tapping works fine.
otherwise try rebinding - i seem to recall some keybinds not working properly if other keys (ie., arrow keys for movement) are being pressed at the same time.
Ah, might be on to something there, as I haven't paid much attention to my stamina bar. Still not sure that's what it is, but I'll keep it in mind for the next time it happens. Thanks!
I had the same problem with C, crouch, when I first started playing. Sometimes I could hit it 10-12 times without anything happening, but that seems to have mostly fixed itself, which is very weird considering I haven't changed anything.
Dash seems to mostly work for me, but the problem is that if I press L-CTRL nothing happens (which is stupid). I have to tap it. And the difference between a press and a tap is minuscule. So I can't use it reliably, and I certainly can't do any of the fancy midair stuff I see people do in videos.
Tried binding it to a mouse button too a couple of times, but that worked even less well (I do have a Razer mouse and it seems the game has a history of problems with those. Though, apparently binding stuff to mouse buttons should have caused the game to crash before the last patch and that never happened for me, so I don't know).
In the control options I hit "default", saved the options, restarted the game. No more issues since. 2.0 somehow borked the previous default bindings (like, during tutorials the bindings weren't displaying the correct keys). So even though the controls were the same between 1.6 and 2.0+, this method just worked. Can't explain it.
And yeah when dodging you also lose stamina, you have to pay attention to the yellow bar underneath your health meter during combat.
And dash relies on there not being any collideable debris between you and where you are dashing, no matter how small. There have been many times I've attempted to dash, but end up stopping short because that piece of junk on the ground is solid, and I can't dash over it, or that pole is in the path, even though I'm dashing at an angle that should miss it, but I don't because I'm unaware of just how wide I am.
This is why the input is delayed. If you hold down the key, the input won't register either.
Clearly CDPR wanted the dash key and sprint key to be the same, but in their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ couldn't bring themselves to make good decisions and made them seperate keys.
Had a similar problem with the weapon swap keys. For some reason they automatically bind as held keys rather than keypresses, although under the default they work as keypresses. If you rebind them (I put them on numpad, since I've got a gaming mouse with a whole numpad at the thumb) then they have to be held down for a second to work.
Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the dodge/dash "not working" in the sense of still getting hit, I mean I literally don't move any faster.
Yep, this is very much a thing.
With both my duck and dash keys, i have to be very careful to just lightly tap them, if i hold them down at all, nothing happens.
This seems to be due to the game supporting "press" and "hold" of a button as sepperate functions (it's used a lot for controllers, not so much for KB+M).
So try this OP: start the game, and quickly tap the dash key a couple of times to see if that works, then try holding it down, see if that fails. If so, then you'll just have to get used to that fast tap when dashing.
Goes to prove how poorly developed and "fixed" this game is.
