Cyberpunk 2077 is anti Japanese and anti Asian racism
I always perceived the American anti-Japanese sentiment of the 1980s as an example of "the pot calling the kettle black". The most industrial giant, after invading everywhere with its products and lifestyle, suddenly fears to be invaded with the products and lifestyle of another industrial giant.

America: We're going to make you successful.
(Japan becomes successful and overtakes the market)
America: No, not like that.

That's part of what makes it so good, tbh.

Cyberpunk at its origin point was indeed built on a lot of the period type racism and fear of Japanese invading strategy of the 80's. But the thing is that this was over 40 years ago and these kind of concepts have changed how they look to the audience of today, where the Japanification of an American city used to be seen as "scary overreach" now just looks very cool and kitsch. Our perceptions of Japanese culture has changed a lot and this has become a sort of mood and niche that is appreciated now, instead of one that is all about fearmongering of foreign markets.

Real world politics? Not really allowed here. Sorry.
