What I've been doing is:
1. Sonic Shock
2. Memory Wipe
3. "Something Traceable" like Cripple Movement
[4. Don't forget to hack via security cameras]
Not many problems
Is this not working for you?
Stealth seems to be mainly a particular build using the "Cool" stat perks. I'm not sure that hacking is within the developer's concept of stealth.
I played close to launch on PS5, and sonic shock made it way too easy to just click on people from a distance and make them die. I suspect that this might have been intentional. But who knows? I guess we will find out when/if they patch it.
Use T4+ Memory Wipe (T4 is the best) first in a queue which makes everything after it untraceable. People should be doing this with high tier hacks already since you can combo Memory Wipe, Reboot Optics and T5 Sonic Shock, in that queue order, to cause the enemy to fall unconscious. Or making all your offensive hacks untraceable too.
The more the devs make trying to be subtle busted, be it deliberate or accident. The more you are encouraged to just turn into a basic brainless serial killer instead of drinking the kool-aid that you are the problem.
"What? chain multiple expensive hacks in a game where using a camera to hack sets it back to hostile and it might just decide to put people in another room on alert mode anyways = OP? Nah man I'm just spamming bait to lure people to my pile of strangled corpses."
Nearly every time I use sonic shock, it is to go "Hey wait, that means I can just shoot their friend in the back of the head while they can't hear the sound of an exploding skull." using the stock effect if deafness, instead of doing wacky combos.
The wacky combos should work, but we shouldn't lie to ourselves wacky combos are overpowered because man that is a lot of steps to get around the fact even thugs with no netrunner have super tracking.
Why would it be a bug?
The actual bug is that it even did that in the first place, given it doesn't say it would in its description, unlike memory wipe, which specifically tells you stuff queued after it can't be traced.
It says it scrambles comms, and it does. An enemy with scrambled comms getting alerted doesn't alert other enemies and stuff. Different effect. And why would you really need tow things doing the same.
Sonic Shock is indeed bugged in 2.1 and does not negate tracing.
CDPR are aware and working on a fix (CrimsonRider posted verification of this a week or so ago).
Ok - I did forget that I use a mod called "Shadowrunner Stops Trace." But as Inari said above, Sonic Shock was never meant to prevent other hacks from being traceable, that is Memory Wipe. So just use MW 1st. What else is there to say?
Stopping communication is in effect the same, because they only try to trace you when a quickhack is "reported" to the others.
Where does it say that?
Nowhere, it's just a fact (well, when it works, hopefully they fix it quickly). They don't explain the game in all detail.
The game also is full of shameless cheating that many fans spread disinformation as "No see it is uh... totally lore friendly. honest" two seconds after saying "Well that NEVER gets spotted so you must be lying and using a naughty hack!"
For one example I was reminded of tonight. Sasquatch goes aggro even if you just use ping on her out of habit of spamming ping. Which is extra rude because you have a supposedly good at hacking plot NPC screaming in your ear to "scan her" (the prompt to yank out her battery also likes to glitch out and keep vanishing unless you shuffle around behind her like an idiot)
"Oh no, if only I was holding a heavy machinegun and was an absolute rambo with a cyberdeck... Oh, right, I am"
Sonic Shock is indeed meant to make other hacks untraceable. Read the description.
Untraceable.
Deafens the enemy, reducing their ability to detect you.
Scrambles comms, preventing the affected enemy from communicating with their allies.
Tier 4: Cloaks the enemy from their allies' sensory systems, causing them to be ignored.
Tier 5: Uploading Sonic Shock to an enemy already affected by Memory Wipe and Reboot Optics will cause them to lose consciousness.
Scrambles comms, preventing the affected enemy from communicating with their allies.
If they're no longer able to communicate via the network to their allies they're not able to be traced as a target.
Plus the whole CDPR stating Sonic Shock not negating tracing is a bug and they're working on fixing it thing...
