Night City is probably even worse than that. You have people with rotting cybernetic impants gone wrong, people urinating and defecating in the street, various types of corporate chemical waste products, rampant "scents of love" from the prolific prostitution business, car smog, etc. Also, don't forget the stench of death as V seems to kill dozens of gangers every day and just leaves the bodies in the street.
Taste the love? More like breathe through your nose or your tongue will be coated it filth and floating lubricant particles.
I did see nose filters in a list during one Gig, though. I bet those are popular implants.
Nose blindness is definitely real. My wife is from the city, not even downtown. When she moved out into the country with me she thought it smelled funny. After living with me for a couple years, now she thinks the city reeks when she goes up there and she can't wait to get back home. Human beings are weird creatures.
Probably like the dogfood processing plant we have here.
Sickly sweet rot.
So it smells like San Francisco.
Really just a "getting used to things" deal. Makes perfect sense, not really weird. Your brain filters out stuff you feel all the time (like you don't notice your clothes 24/7)
But Night City is just the advanced representation of today's city life. This will undoubtably be what major cities across the globe look like in the future.
Yeah, it's frighteningly not far from how real major cities look. People just get used to it all. I think that Night City probably has a pretty ridiculous murder rate per capita. There are plenty of violent and gang infested real world cities, but in NC it seems that dozens die nightly. Other than that, it's not so far from reality.
