Cyberpunk 2077

Worth playing in 2024?
Bought it on release. Hated it for all of the obvious reasons and got rid after 1 day, and never looked back. I heard it's considerably better now, though why and to what extent I'm unsure of.

Does the city feel more alive now than it did on release? To me it just seemed so... dead. Not enough NPC's or vehicles roaming around. And the NPC's that did were often glitchy and buddy which killed immersion.

I'm guessing bugs still exist in the game, which is understandable in an open world game. But I'm guessing they are much less than they were a couple of years or so back?

To address your density concerns, I think the game has definitely improved since its initial release version. It is now miles ahead of where it was after they stopped supporting retro consoles. Cities are very crowded with NPCs if your PC can handle the maximum settings. The traffic behaves more like Grand Theft Auto V now - if you idle in a busy town area you'll see jams forming, etc. Overall though, it remains fundamentally the same game. So it's up to you whether you think it's worth getting now given the updates.

To be honest I only played a few hours before giving up, partly also because I was just really busy at that particular time with other things, but the bugs and lack of Night City feeling like a city that's believable meant that I didn't experience much of the game itself in regards to story and mechanics. In a game like this immersion for me is everything so if there's less immersion breaking bugs and more people within the busy areas that should make it a much better experience this time around. I'll wait to see what other replies there might be but will probably just end up biting the bullet.

I have to say that i had already a lot fun playing the game at release, but since update 2.1 its even better, i had only a couple bug with my second playthrough that i startet last week.
Give it a second chance, the Story and Characters are incredibly good written and the Skilltree makes much more sense now.

When the game initially came out, I bought a 3080 just to play it. And, I quit playing within 10 hours, imho, it was simply awful, couldn't even follow the story. A couple weeks ago I bought PL during the steam sale and as of today, I have 161 hrs playing (nearing completion). It is that good, every single aspect is improved, the world feels real and the graphics have caught up to the promises. If you have the funds, you won't regret it, just one person's opinion (this is coming from 25 years of PC gaming)

I loved the game on release despite the bugs maybe I got lucky. Did a playtrough on the current version and didn't get a single bug so yes, I would say it's a lot better

The game has been improved considerably since release, and it is now a legitimately great game.
Appreciate the replies! Definitely seems like it's now something like the game everybody originally hoped it would be, so will give it another bash.

This was a great game back when it released, and it’s still a great game now. It’s better than most games that came out in 2023 that’s for sure, and as of 2024 so far there really isn’t anything yet so Cyberpunk is the best game this year for now.

Don't forget to go into your gameplay settings and turn up the crowd density.

Game is still not perfect but the atmosphere and vibe is great. CPR improved all aspects of the game a lot. I also skipped the game on release date (despite i got it as a gift) but now i spent 200 hours in it. Phantom liberty is another level. Entire game should be like it.

Do you have to play Cyberpunk 2077 before the DLC in order to get it, so to speak?

Worth playing. End of. Any modern system that's sufficiently clean with semi-recent drivers and that doesn't overheat easily (cause boy will this thing tax your cooling setup) should be rock solid.

I kind of miss cars driving in midair sometimes, or skeletal frames and wheels tooling around the streets, cause it made me laugh not get angry... then again I've always been on PC not console, I suppose if my first experience was on a console I'd be more gun shy...

i just got it last week and although it is a little gta ish, it's still fun to play... i personally prefer deus x human revolution and mankind divided and i think that Adam Jensen can solo entire night city, but cyber 2077 is a good game...

Basically, yes. The Phantom Liberty _expansion_ introduces a major branch in the middle of the main game. You can skip the main game part if you are really familiar with it (I guess...I didn't) but I would say you should play most or even all the main game (short of the Point Of No Return) before getting into Phantom Liberty to get the most out of it.

Note that you can go from Phantom back to the main story after doing the initial Phantom rescue sequence. (You'll know when you get there).
