Well, at least there is a way. I still think It sucks when your character turns into paper as soon as there is a cut-scene but I guess they have to establish Myers as something of a badass.
I mean she was a Militech Soldier and has fought in like every war since the 2020s.
From Borderlands to Dying Light to Skyrim you will be constantly reminded that no matter your power.....the Story takes Precedence.
I don't find it that big of an issue personally. The more "Open"(For lack of a better term) a game is the less they can have "Cinematic" scenes. It's a necessary evil for cinematic story telling. Even BG3 a relatively "open" game has "Specific" events that have to happen to complete it. We are far from games that "let you do whatever you want" in a "Cinematic" way. So maybe someday but until then I guess you just gotta deal with these limitations.
The original game didn't have these problems, taking on the boat with Rogue for example. You got to decide how to act and the NPC was there to help you not order you around. Oh well, I'm cranky perhaps it will get better later on.
It get's more open after that first mission, but you can ignore Songbird after you get into Dog Town and fail the entire story and still have Dog Town open to you, so IDK if it's as "Railroady" as you claim if you can just ignore the entire thing and have Myers die.
