Monowire range?
Just came across the first ripperdoc where I can buy Monowires, and they sound fun.

Up until now I've mainly taken down enemies from a range using Overheat quickhacks, and I see there is a monowire that also does ranged damage, so I thought of investing in one and use in combination with the hacks.

But how is the range of the monowire compared to the quickhacks, please? Do I have to get up close and personal to use them?

And are any of the damage types preferable over the others, when used in combo with the thermal quickhacks, or just choose the one with the most appealing extra effects?

Monowire is a melee weapon but it has a long range for melee.

Ok many thanks.

I bought some other things instead. Will see if I test it later. Only lvl 10, so I don't have room for much tech yet

I suspect by 'long range' you probably don't mean as long as the quickhacks? That would be ideal, but maybe a bit silly for melee.

I could have tried, of course, and reloaded the game if I didn't like it... Next time :steamsunny:

Ranges are weird but in terms of most to least for arm melees.
Monowire>Mantis Blades(Same as most blades)>Gorilla Arm(Literally same as punching)

There are bonuses in the Tech tree (where the few Monowire skills are) that give you bonus Quickhack damage based on the amount of DoTs on your opponents.
As far as I can tell the only way to (stay within Tech and) deal bleeding is the neutral Monowire. There are quickhacks for the other DoTs (Shock, Poison, Burn) but not for Bleed.

If you're running quickhacks it's definitely a good addition to your set of tools. (You can still punch things normally by holding Alt and changing your melee selection)

Minor (imo) spoilers for the VERY start of the DLC:
When you start the DLC you get a special skill tree (independent of normal skills). The center one lets you put a Control Quickhack (Disable Movement, Cyberware Malfunction and a few others) in your Monowire that activates on heavy attacks. and the second node for Monowires lets you spread any control Quickhack by hitting multiple enemies with your Monowire.

Thank you!

That sounds handy! I was planning to get the DLC after I completed the main game, but it sounds like this feature is available also when playing the main game? So getting the DLC now will have benefits in the main game as well?

If so, I'll get it now while it's a whopping 15% off :lunar2019grinningpig::steamthumbsup:

"whopping" 15% off

You must be new to Steam.

:steamthis: Was trying to be funny / sarcastic

15% off isn't too bad, though, since the DLC is still relatively new (unlike me :steamsunny:)

Yup! The DLC takes place in the mid-game so it's a good idea to have it as the stuff you get is pretty cool.
Also if you even end up looking up old Twitch Drop weapons while the wikis seem to be dead for updates I've found they're in the supply drops in the DLC area. (If you miss one from failing a hack or just not noticing the drop they'll be on sale at the special shop in the starting area for the DLC too)

:steamthis: Nice, many thanks. I'll get it tomorrow :letsgo:

Thanks again for this tip, and I got the DLC now :104:

Just to confirm: The new skill tree will be available once I've completed the last 'required' mission here, The Heist? I can't find any differences on the skill screen now, at least.

If so, seems I chose the perfect time to buy it! :steamhappy: Or do I have to do the DLC things before getting the skill tree? Guess I'll find that out, though... Impatient patient...

Anyway, I've really gotten to love this game!

It's unlocked at the beginning of the dlc, and you can hunt around the dlc area to find more points to spend on it. The dlc unlocks after the story mission that takes place in pacifica, and that unlocks via Judy. Hope that's vague enough while still being informative.
