How is Rogue the top fixer?
I'm at a huge disappointment. I skipped Rogue almost completely last time in favor of PL, but now I decided to see what's the fuss about Rogue and how she is the top of the top in NC.

And.. nope? Her jobs are just the usual low-level "hit the scraps", "steal the car", "smack some face" plain and boring things targeted at random nobodies with run of the mill losers as clients?

So - what the heck, why even add those jobs to Rogue of all characters? If it's like that, then getting those jobs from someone like Dino would make much more sense (and bump Dino's low jobs counter along the way). Even Regina and Capitan are way better because at least Regina has a unique job line (cyber physchos) and Capitan gives unique delivery missions.

I just don't get it? Are all Rogue jobs that plain and low level? Or I need to do some secret stuff so that she starts giving jobs that correspond to her "queen" status?

She tells you why if you just go talk to her. V is known for the Relic heist and their entire squad was killed. No one wants to work with you because they think it's your fault. V get's all the ♥♥♥♥ jobs that are too small for a team to do but too dangerous for a run of the mill Merc.

If that is the case then such an excuse only highlights her incompetence. She is a top fixer but she was unable to dig what's practically on the surface? She couldn't discover that the Heist job was at least a setup by Dex? Yeah, right. Blame the only surviving crew member for the failure of the whole op. Very competent move. Especially if it's like the case I have - getting to her with max street cred and all possible jobs from all fixers completed with the top score.

It doesn't matter what she thinks if she can't get anyone to work with you.

But (at least some) others don't seem to care? I get side quests with folks reaching out to MC specifically "because you're the best in NC" (their words). And if you mean "other mercs" - then how would they know about the story behind the Heist? The lot of them would hardly know who was even the crew behind it. Rogue is a (top?) fixer, so that's why it should be like lifting her pinkie finger for her to get the truth. But not for other mercs. Especially if those mercs would know MC from the street cred and other jobs track record - because that would not be "classified".

Yeah and they ask you to do one person jobs. In the lore "Edgerunners" tend to work in teams.

Claire tells you and Jackie that The Mercs at the Afterlife "gossip like schoolgirls" and the Relic Heist was all over the news. Everyone knows you worked with Dex and everyone including Dex died.

She's not there to be a fixer, she's there to advance the main story line. Any extra jobs are just filler for her.

I mean she is the top fixer because she survived for so long. Plus eddies are eddies and I'm pretty sure nobody knows the truth (The heist wasn't a setup, just something happened that no one could plan for) unless V tells them.

And I'll say it again for good measure, eddies are eddies and you can always turn down low paying jobs

It's not about EDs, it's just about the in-lore justification. I'm fine with the jobs - it's just that the fixer should've been different for those kind of jobs Rogue gives. And the game has mid-tier fixers so it was totally possible to just have them give MC those jobs.

I hoped that since Rogue is a top fixer and there's a boatload of requirements to even get her jobs in the first place - then those jobs will be something special, interesting, risky and most of all - something with a possibility of failure. But in the end it's just the same something that all other fixers give meaning Rogue isn't at all that "best fixer". At least not when I look at it from both gameplay and lore perspectives.

My view on Rogue is she is there for the main story only. The gigs she gives you after completing a region's gigs are just side hustles so makes some sense there.

But her main gig and acts as a fixer is with one of the endings.

Honestly I guess having something like a bounty board for you to pick would have been kinda nice.
Hidden Gunman Dec 28, 2023 @ 7:05pm
The majority of fixer jobs are for their personal advantage, rather than for clients, if you read between the lines.

Actually, She answers this as well. V can tell her "Cmon, You know that's not how things went down"

In which Rogue tells V who cares, it doesn't matter. All that matters in the merc world is your rep and V's is screwed up. It would damage Rogue's reputation to start giving V big name gigs while all her other loyal mercs see that.
It's why most of the missions she gives you are personal to her or a "favor" instead of being official.

In the merc world, Reputation can be worth it's weight in gold and you're nothing with a damaged reputation. Hands said it best there.
Hidden Gunman Dec 28, 2023 @ 11:20pm
To carry that on, the fixers are also in big power plays among themselves, to some extent. Use your own team, or crews that are affiliated to you, and your official stamp is all over a job. Using someone 'neutral', like V, to do a job is the equivalent of saying, "Hey, look, I'm not making a power play, its just biz". Whether it is or not is moot, its almost a mutually agreed limit to how far fixers will push each other."
ImHelping Dec 29, 2023 @ 1:09am
Basically every "Cool lore figure" is an incompetent rube coasting on plot armor right up until they don't. People like to distract you from that by crying "V is a power fantasy! (But also gets all the trash jobs for babies because he isn't a power fantasy)"

Plus your vague rep description talks you up as "A big deal with a rep and respect, but not a living legend yet" at 90% for example, but hey not like rep meters were ever sane in any game. But it does reinforce the fact trying to play it off as "Oh, everyone is scared to work with you after the heist" doesn't fit reality, even when someone even tries to blame that excuse in game.

It isn't 2077 alone that does it, but you notice it more when a game rubs your face in how special and competent someone or something is, then they drop the ball and shrug "oops!... But I'm still cooler than you, trust me" Great job tracking down Smasher's empty boat of cars and postgame lootcrates. A for effort rogue even though you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up your job of, step 1: Find smasher. Step 2. Bring a liberty pistol. (seriously?)

See also: Popular local cyber goddess Alt. Their entire existence is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up while everybody is impressed by it.

"Okay so they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up AGAIN even after I handhold them through all the hard parts... But I'M the poorly written character?"
"Well see, they are just so cool and V is a power fantasy so there! Also didn't you see how cool they were against all that nameless trash you could have dealt with anyways?"

At least rogue has the excuse of being an aging burnout spending 90% of their time on a couch, handing out the same jobs as my precious bowl cut boy on a hill.

Looking for a common sense, in Night City?
Looking for a good writing and plot devices in an RPG.

Okay, I get it. It's just bad narration and inconsistent game world. V could be pulling off stunts nobody else would be able to, even during regular jobs - like stealing stuff / eliminating targets / etc with nobody even noticing it and without a single bullet shot but that V is still counted as incompetent? Okay.. Next time call someone competent who will leave a bloodbath behind, send all the alarms to the corpo base you're hitting and drop all the evidence trailing back to you all around the scene.
