How do I NOT update this game...
I just got it, and all the mods I've dreamed of and I'm having a blast. I don't want to update to 2.02 and then these mods get broken. I'd like to play until all the modders update for compatibility first.

But Steam ANNOYINGLY forces updates on Singleplayer games... like, come on, really?

4. Avoid being one of those lost souls hassling mod authors the second after they realise their game has been updated and key mods are not working. because they did not follow step 1&2

I do this for all my modded games, have never been caught with broken mods

Why would you...not want to? They're adding so much new stuff.

If the modders are still enjoying the game then chances are they will update, you just have to wait. It's that simple.

If you can't do that, stop using those mods.

Library -> (Your game of choice) -> Settings icon on the right side -> Properties -> Updates -> then select "Auto-update when I launch the game".
This will only update the game when you launch it through Steam. Unfortunately there is no option to disable updating altogether. So, the next step to take, to still play the game without Steam, would be to open the local files and (I think) go to Cyberpunk2077/bin/x64, and find the .exe file, then create a desktop shortcut of the .exe file, that way you can launch the game without Steam, and avoid updating the game in the process.

You can turn off automatic updates just right click on the game. There is an option there somewhere. Honestly going to play this game in a year again fully modded with a new graphics card just to see how amazing it will look.

If you permanently want to stay on the current update, then all you need to do is download the Steam Depot of the current update stable mods update.

Simply press windows key + R and type in steam://open/console
Then in the console window type download_depot 1091500 1091501 4882158097132343077

Doing this will re-download the current latest update of the game to your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content" or wherever you installed Steam itself.

You can also create a Symbolic Link if you don't want the game taking up free space on your C drive, to do that download https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html

Then copy your content folder to a new drive, right click that folder and press "Pick Link Source" then find the location of your original content folder and delete it, now you can right click anywhere on that file explorer branch and click "Drop As > Junction" and boom now your steam will still see the content folder but anything being sent to that new content folder will actually be delivered to your other drive.

Then once all your mods are updated again, all you gotta do is manually delete the game files for CP2077 (or download a depot of the newest update) and either verify integrity of game files or overwrite the game with the new depot.

running the exe directly should stop it from updating since it bypasses steams DRM, you wont get any achievements but you wont be forced to update either so pick your poison

If you just got it, you should be on 2.02. The game doesnt install previous versions, it installs the current version.

Right click the game, pick properties, and then go to betas and pick 1_63_legacy_patch - 1.63 Legacy Version if you want to go back to a pre-2.2 version of the game.

How will that impact on the mods, will it require installing the rollback version compatible mods if they are still available?

Right click the game go to property's and installed files, browse the games folder till you find the .EXE and start the game from there.

I don't really use any mods, but I imagine you will have to find versions of your mods that match that one. That version of the game was also from before the DLC, so it would be my guess that the DLC probably won't work. So, this isn't the best solution, but it is the easiest way to rollback to an earlier version.

if you buy the game at GOG.com you have the choice as to what updates or fixes you want to download, and you can cancel updates in progress too
