edit:
Overall, this game will be in the top 10 of my favorite RPG's to play once 2.1 releases. It was already high on my list, but this update will definitely tip the scales.
There are other games near the top of my list, but CP-2077 just has that "it" factor for me.
So, is that "EPIC"? I dunno. Is it even valid to ask?
I think it's always mostly about the time. For me C2077 is definitely epic, not just better.
The best redemption arc of videogame's history (no it isn't No Man's Sky, despite the updates that game is still a dull procedural mess).
Technically it may be more impressive than Witcher 3, but for its time Witcher 3 was probably better, or more enjoyable. Tough to compare though.
Not enough interactivity to warrant a simulation or RPG.. in your home the only interactions are looking in the mirror or watching the looped TV, or checking generic spam emails on the computer for example. The veneer is quite thick, but scrape at it and you see the illusion. This is just a pew pew game with cars.
The story is still good, nothing changed in the years, so that is good. I still have to play the DLC, it looks like others enjoyed it a lot.
I got to lvl 45 with a shotgun/LMG build and was quite OP at second hardest setting at the end. (hard?)
Didnt use any special stuff exept just upgrade now and then.
Did most side mission storylines as well, and liked most of them.
The Tarrot card and killing cyber psychos ended up beeing just filler/xp quests wich was a little dissapointing, because i thought it was some deeper meaning behind both questlines, it wasnt.
All in all a really good RPG with great graphics.
Highly recommended.
Ill buy the addon when its at 50%+ sale for sure. (because im cheap)
EDIT:
I think its better than Witcher 3 because you have more build options.
In W3 i feel dex/roll monkey is the only viable fun option.
I have yet to finish W3 because i found combat lacking/easy.
Just my 2 cents.
Release version 1.06:
+The city was awesome.
+Story had some really high beats and characters+location+actions just oozed atmosphere
But..
-cars were horrible to control
-skill tree was forgetabble
-there couple of op strats - hide with silenced pisto
-bugs were everywhere killing the atmosphere and sometimes making it pain to play
-Story has some lows and I could not dial into keanu, sorry Johnny mood/vibe. It got better to the end, but yeah we had issues.
In all, it was something to remember, it impressed at places, it failed at others.
Truth was, you could feel it can be special, but they just ran out of time to do some editing in story to sync tone, to polish bugs etc.
Memorable but self-defeated.
Now when Morrowind came, it was borderline unplayable... oblivion, Skyrim with reverse flying dragons, hehe. Bugs in Outer Worlds, Witcher 3 v1... etc. So there was some hope.
2.0 + Phantom Liberty
- Phantom Liberty expansion is very good, thick with meaning. Mind you I am after credit roll but before main events in V's story, where under some circumstances things can go different. Jury is still out there, not sure what will happen.
- Again, expansion is very very good. Not sure if it is that I escaped from Starfield into Phantom Liberty and everything in PL oozes characterization and emotion.
- Cars are now fun.
- Skill tree is actually usable and feeds well into action
- Items are much readable for me now and cyberware has such a direct impact.
- Skill and Items being more readable feeds into very well combinable playstyles, I like.
- Encountered very little bugs. it is a bit more polished graphically.
By me 2.0 Phantom Liberty is definitely GOTY material, mainly because they tread shades of cyberpunk, thriller motives with more determination.
