feel kind of lost
So I finished the "tutorial intro mission and met Mr. Tubby.

But now I don't really know what to do. I'm supposed to buy a chip but I don't have near the creds. Yes I have a bunch of gigs and stuff on the map but so that's not it. But they just all look like filler. It feels kind of like F4 but with even less urgency or drive.

Try opening up your journal and read some of the optional objectives. Might give you a hint or two of what to do...

If you don't want to engage with the missions in the open world then you'll miss some of the best parts of a CDPR game. There is filler there, but there's also some real rabbit holes scattered through the game. It's not even needed to get the money either, Dex gives you leads to follow.

The game is pretty straight forward dude. Do gigs, ncpd calls, side jobs and look for the w/e 200+ secrets around the city.

I think the journal also lets you set an active mission which highlights where you want to go on the map if I recall correctly. Like most games.

What's the name of that quest? You don't have to buy anything with your own money this early in the game usually.

If it's "The Pickup", where you have to get the Flathead, you can either pay it with the money, the militech chick has given you, or just kill everyone, hack the splinter and keep the 10k for yourself on top of the loot from the dead enemies.

if you mean 'The Gift' sidequest...?

(that is the quest T-Bug gives you in the elevator on the way home from the Sandra Dorset rescue)

most new players find themselves going for this side gig right after Mr Tubby (lmao@ that one, i'm saving that) ie Dex (Dexter DeShawn) lets them out of his car over in Kabuki.

there is a large round structure with a pagoda roof there, and the icon for the side gig will be in a room at the top.

just follow the line for it (assuming you pressed J for 'Journal' and selected 'The Gift' as your quest to be highlighted.)
you should find yourself in the store, and you want to talk to Yoko, the lady with the small round sunglasses, and access her store inventory (get used to shades of all kinds on people, even at night. its a style thing XD)

there is a copy of the 'Ping' quickhack that should have a small yellow circle with an exclamation mark inside it, inside her inventory of Netrunner items (Cyberpunk's name for hackers)
that one should be listed as costing you 0 money

(just like your gun, 'Dying Night' was when you talked to Wilson in the gun store in your H10 apartment block. You *did* talk to Wilson and grab your free 'sweet little 45' from him right? He is your introduction to shops, kind of. and 'the Gift' is your introduction to Quickhacks and how to use them)

all you have to do is click on that specific version of 'Ping' to buy it for zero money.
after that, follow the quests instructions and it should teach you how to use the 'Ping' quickhack to highlight enemies and electronics that share the same network, and how to Breach the jack in points you will see around the map.
most will have a number on them, and if you do not have the intelligence stat high enough, it will be red with two different numbers like 'Jack In 3/5'
but some points just say 'Jack In' with no numbers. those are free, so you can grab them no matter how few or how many points you invested into the int stat.

Really I have done a couple of random side jobs and so far they have been single missions random side quest. Like kill this dude, install something here or grab this from a body. Like when do the missions become rabbit holes :D

from the sounds of things the OP is not much for reading or watching cut scenes. The game makes it pretty easy to progress the story.

Just do the gigs. You get money and loot and stuff. Sell loot, get chips. Or just do the main story quests. You can "finish the game" in like a day.

Those are not fillers like Ubisoft games. They have substance.

Okay, some people are going off topic, but if you press the J key, you get the journal. It contains all the open quests and information about a quest. The one you talk about is probably 'The Pick Up', where you suppose to get a robot named 'Flathead'

Also, there is an optional target, and take it from me, go for that first

I can't think if anything more sad than taking a kid to a sandbox, giving him some toys, and he looks up at you and says "What do I do?"

Get back to me when you've played through at least once. (If you've literally just started the game, as you seem to imply, then I'm not writing you a list of spoilers. :) )

pay attention to what people say to you or you're gonna be lost and not know whats going on. not only did Dex tell you the plan, he texted you AND your journal was updated with everything you need.
Grimmx Dec 2, 2023 @ 7:13am
Wow.
This guy isnt even trying to play the game.
Talk about not seeing the woods because of all the trees in the way.
