Is monowire useless now?
I'm a returning player since 1.6 and i don't see any dedicated skill perks (besides some general cyberware perks under technical ability) whereass the mantis blades use the same perks as regular bladed weapons and thus have far much damage output potential.

Or am i missing something?

monowire is useful if your running a net runner build there's a perk in intelligence tree on the upper left if im remembering correctly that makes it do finishers based off hacks and decks you can buy that scales its damage off the amount of hacks stacked. You get back health and ram for finishers and kills based off hack stacks npcs have on death so it has a whole hack and slash loop

edited to add this build for reference its a lucy build or something based off that show they made

Nope, Monowire is notably weaker dps wise compared to other weapons due to the fact that 1) Its Light Attacks are AOE and 2) With Jailbreak you can apply Quick Hacks using Charged Monowire Attacks and, as mentioned, 3) It synergizes a lot with Cyberdecks, so of which directly buff the monowire or buff weapon damage for enemies afflicted with quick hacks.

Instead of looking at the INT perk tree, there's only two, you should be looking at your Quick Hacks and Cyberdeck to maximize your damage output.

In general your rotation should go something like;
Step 1: Burn off your RAM with Quick Hacks
Step 2: Pop Overclock, burn hp for RAM with Quick Hacks, heal for more hp.
Step 3: Rush your enemy, charge monowire and deliver a control quick hack, like Cripple Movement (which boosts melee damage and Finishers), using monowire.
Step 4: Spam light attacks, regain RAM with every hit and kill, spread quick hacks to nearby targets hit.
Step 5: Use Finishers to regain hp.
Step 6: Overclock cooldown is done, RAM is full, health items fully charged.
Step 7: Rinse repeat.

The only real weakness of the monowire from where I sit is its 1) Lack of stamina Discount and 2) Buff its damage using Cyberware takes capacity away from armor which is far more important.

Optimal use for monowire is having 2 related perks from intelligence, cyberdeck that gives bonuses to mono (Militech/Biotech) and having relic tree parks for monowire + putting cripple movement hack on it. In that case, its pretty good.

i found the monowire to be cumbersome at best,

usually the baddies group in 3-4, if there's more than 5, they're usually 2 groups of 3-4, usually there's 1 staring off into space, one guy staring at his 2 allies. and the remaining guy staring back at him,

the guy staring at his 2 allies gets a throwing knife in his head, killing him instantly. the guy watching him get stabbed in the brain gets a kill or takedown from behind, all before the third guy who was staring off into space can turn around to see whats going on, then i either pull my sword for a power kill, or throw the knife into his head, (if its off cooldown, or i picked it up due to proximity)

this is where the combat rotation ends, if theres more than 3 enemies, that's when ill dump my hacks, and use the knife/blade combo. to finish off the rest.

forgot to add, its the distance the enemies tend to be from one another that makes it so the aoe from the monowire just isnt worth while, you usually can't get more than 2 enemies at a time, due to their triangular placement on the map.

The only thing i really dont like about the 2.0 update is now that the entire perk system has been torn down and rebuilt in a completely different way you cant use builds that you loved to use in before the update anymore. Before i loved using monowire plus sandevistan because of its AOE damage whole groups were dead before they noticed since pre update epic mono killed in 1 or 2 hits as it had the highest cyber arm blade damage compared to Mantis blades.

With the update monowire has been severely nerfed takes 3 or four hits to kill some enemies. Forcing it to use it that the updates wants like for a net running build.

I recommend you revert to version 1.63 in the beta tab. It's far superior to the generic trash that is 2.0+.

Guys, get melee damage on all your cyberware, around 100% and you'll be one shotting enemies from stealth with strong attacks from monowire, and 3 shotting most enemies with it in open combat.

The perks are almost meaningless if you actually invest in your cyberware with chipware connoisseur.

Sell all your guns and use the eds to buy cheap cyberware over and over until you hit about level 20-30. They don't all need to be white, greens are fine and blues are okay. Upgrade the throwaway piece and then check the stats available on the piece you are actually using. They can't be save scummed, you have to progress the list it generates. Repeat until acceptable.

After level 53 I got bored cuz it was too easy, but that probably just means it's viable for most people. Mine was a 3 int build with a sandevistan, finishers are not necessary. Yes I'm talking about very hard, no I'm not using gameplay altering mods.

This has been your public service announcement for the danger noodle arms.

Monowire, with Overclock, and the boost from the Paraline Cyberdeck had me curb stomping the trash mobs. It kind of sucked against bosses, but I still had quickhacks and smart guns for that.

Would katanas or bats/gorilla arms be better? Yeah, but are they as much fun? Also yes when it comes to gorilla arms.

Not scaling from blade perks, and having a set attack speed that couldnt be improved was a bummer, but it still got boosts from anything that specifically says melee.
